Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

Yes I understand that the agent's actions are different but everything Chelsea did in their pursuit of Modric, Real Mardid have also done . In fact I'd say they've been worse as their president has got in on the act too , at least Abramovich stayed out of it.

I'm going on the premise Bale wants to stay. If that is so , I just cant figure out a negative for coming out with it next week when the players are back at the training ground.

AVB already did that - he got accused of pressuring our chairman.

I think on this one, you'll just have to trust the people who run our club to know more about the situation, and how to handle it, than us. They know all four corners of the room; the public knows one, perhaps two.

Re: Gareth Bale

Well I happen to believe in showing respect to the customer , in this case, the clubs followers . The contempt shown in football to the paying customer is staggering.

Also , the manager should not have to continuously face the same question time and time again . The hacks will be all over this once training starts next week . They will be hassling other squad players to get info. Believe me, we've not seen anything yet.

Real Madrid's conduct in this has been nothing short of disgraceful just as Chelsea's was in their pursuit of Modric . We spoke out on that one , did you disagree with that ? We are a big club and we're being pushed around by a club, that I'm of the understanding we have a deal with. A deal that should be of mutual benefit , like imploring the star player of the other team to hand in a transfer request and to join them, I don't think so. If as you say, Bale is happy to stay at Spurs for at least another season and Levy will not sell, then what's the problem in publicly stating the fact and whilst doing so , telling Real Madrid to STFU?

There seems to be a belief with some people, that by declaring the fact Bale is staying it would have some sort of adverse affect on our pre season preparations.

Little Tottenham Hotspur Football Club you stay quiet, know your place.

I am liking this post and it stirs something within.......yes while I don't think we should go out acting billy big gonads a nice short no messing about statement from levy may be needed..... because we are not little and we should not tolerate their mannerisms regardless of whether they are commercial partners or not.

however maybe Levy Is using experience of past episodes in trying a new tact...........perhaps it isn't the best course of action to go to war with Madrid......but its hard when they seem to be excrementing all over us.

some want us to stand up for ourselves....others think our current silence is the best way to go.....personally I am going to trust that Levy Is doing his best for the club I love.....in the meantime I will abuse as much as I can the horrid club that is Madrid.

Do you really think this is what Daniel Levy thinks?

Do you think an official statement from Levy will change Real Madrid's approach at all?

There are some people running some football clubs that care more about appeasing (or perhaps further enkindling) their fans, West Ham seems like a good example to me. I'm glad we're not one of them.

As a Tottenham fan I care more about the outcome than about how assured I myself can feel during a process. Levy enjoys keeping things quiet, if something is said you know he means business and that he can back his words with action. I think it's fair to assume that he's not too happy about Real at the moment and I feel confident that what can be done about it is being done. If Levy and the rest of the higher ups at the club, with a lot more detailed information about the situation than us, think that the best approach for the club is to keep quiet in the press (for now at least) then I'm happy with that.

I agree that we are customers in some ways. When I buy a ticket for a match I am definitely a customer and I have grave concerns about how I am treated in that manner. But from how you are talking, no I do not think "customer" is an accurate description of us in this role. We are supporters, we are followers. And this is in the context of Tottenham Hotspur football club and I think that needs to be taken into consideration.

I do not think fans necessarily NEED to be kept in the loop with business such as this; in fact, I think it could even be detrimental to the cause (the cause being THFC) if a statement were made at this point, even if for the benefit of fans. What good does it do us? Will this be a deal breaker for those people thinking of renewing their season tickets? For the vast majority, no. What about those fans thinking of buying a brand new "BALE 11" shirt for 2013/14? Well, the kit isn't out at the moment and even then, the club offer a warning over squad details when the shirts are sold.

At this moment in time all there is to go on is 100% speculation. How would the club look if they respond every time to something like this? Weak, insecure, defensive.

Statements have been made - AVB before the summer saying there was no plan to sell Bale. Maybe it wasn't a headline story but that was the definite tack the club were taking. Bale, what's he said? Nothing but willingness to stay at Spurs in the medium term.

Have Madrid made a definite bid? If yes, then maybe I'd like Spurs to offer a response. But to be honest, I don't think they even need to turn it down. Because, unless we actually ACCEPT an offer, there is no business to be done. I get offers every day to look into "miss sold PPI". Do I actually reject them? No. I just don't respond to the call. I leave the phone off the hook maybe hoping the muppets might run up a bill but I don't engage. (Wouldn't it be great if and when Zidane calls to offer us £80m to Bale rather than saying no we just ignore the question altogether but offer to look into his loan protection history?)

Fact is, it's ridiculous any of you need any reassurance. If you know your history of our club in modern times, this is going one of two ways. Either Bale will stay this year, or we will reject the first two or three bids before selling him for a monster fee. That won't happen until mid August at earliest, so what's the point in reading the news before then?

exceptional post.......

Yes I guess sometimes you just have to trust.....by that I mean levy/Baldini/Sherwood/AVB doing all they can to show Bale that he is wanted/loved here.......have to trust that levy is acting in the best interests of our club.

You made excellent points......Its Madrid's intention to unsettle us and get a reaction from Bale...our hierarchy must be wound up.....

its interesting half the posters on here would probably have made some statement or tried to make Madrid behave (me) the other half would maintain radio silence and just let Madrid go on ranting and raving.....

Obviously they may well be a reason I/we don't know as to why its prudent for Levy to keep stum.

Re: Gareth Bale

It makes your blood boil the way they are acting but just because they are richer, more powerful and more popular doesn't mean they hold all the cards. We need to be clever in how we play this out, for the ultimate good of the club.

By all accounts Bale is a level headed guy and not a money grabber, and that does make this a better situation for us than previous years.

Re: Gareth Bale

Di Maria, Higuain, Coentrao...I don't think any of these players would accept a move to a non CL club.
Anyways, player swaps almost never happen, just more noise from the press.

Are you going to keep us guessing who said that ?

Paulinho allegedly..

'It is important for the team and the Brazilian fans that at the moment all my focus is on winning the Confederations Cup - but after the tournament is finished I hope it is a deal that can get finalised quickly,' said Paulinho.

'To play in England for a great team like Tottenham is a dream. What I respect about Tottenham is the ambition they have shown.

Paulinho: There is no way I could turn down Tottenham... and they said Bale is staying

Paulinho has revealed he is on the brink of joining Tottenham this summer after confessing it would be 'dream' to play for the north London club.
Spurs chiefs are confident they have sealed the Brazil midfielder's transfer from Corinthians ahead of next season.
The midfielder, 24, has been identified by manager Andre Villas-Boas as a primary transfer target and newly appointed technical director Franco Baldini has been working on securing the deal.

And Paulinho, who is currently playing in the Confederations Cup, has dropped a huge hint that he is off to White Hart Lane.

Re: Gareth Bale

I remember when Rebrov said that about Campbell

well Rebrov was right. He signed in 2000 iirc and Cnutball left in 2001.......its highly likely Bale will leave in a years time too i guess

Re: Gareth Bale

Former Tottenham midfielder and manager Glenn Hoddle has urged star man Gareth Bale to continue his career in the Premier League.
Bale has been the subject of intense speculation regarding a move overseas, with Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid rumoured to be planning a big money move for the Welshman.
The 23-year-old enjoyed a standout season for Spurs in which he netted 21 Barclays Premier League goals and was named the PFA Players' Player and Young Player of the Year.

Packing up? Gareth Bale may be persuaded to leave Tottenham this summer for Real Madrid

Despite his efforts, the north London club missed out on the final Champions League place to rivals Arsenal on the final day of the season, leading some to suggest Bale would look elsewhere in order to further his career.
Yet Hoddle believes Bale should remain in England and the 55-year-old is better placed than most to talk about the winger's future after he swapped Tottenham, with whom he made over 300 appearances, for Monaco in 1987.
'If he does move, I think he will settle easier at another club in England,' Hoddle told The Sun.

In the know: Former England manager Glenn Hoddle (left) left Tottenham for Monaco in 1987

'The only ones he can realistically join are Manchester United and Emirates Marketing Project.
'He could get Champions League football there. But I want him to stay at Tottenham.'
Hoddle, who also managed Spurs for two years from 2001 and is now being linked with the vacant England Under 21 post, added: 'He is still young enough to secure a move abroad later in life when he could cope better with it.'

Re: Gareth Bale

With 3 years left on his contract I am positive Madrid are wasting their time. They can say what they want but mark my words Bale is staying, and I have money on it

I hope you win your bet ... I'm sure the odds will shorten after 1st July ..What odds you got ?
