Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

AVB desperately wanted Moutinho and Willian, both cultured pass-and-move types; at Chelsea his list included Modric, Oscar and co. Our transfer committee decided to play moneyball though (or at least save some money) and went for direct goalscoring stats, without considering the context of those stats and the style of player we actually needed.

I'd hope we are more adventurous this summer. We are finally getting linked to a number of young players besides Leandro again, thankfully (Son, PEA, Eriksen, Pjanic, Rebic, Cornelius, Bernard etc) which is already a big change from the "Kenwyne Jones, Phil Neville" days.

Just watch us deadline-buy McCarthy though
If we get another VDV - or even a Dempsey - on deadline day, I'll be content.

Re: Gareth Bale

Can I just say, Nigeyman, that I find your posts wholly refreshing in their agendaless honesty, passion and openess? I do not agree with everything you say mate, but I love the way you say it. Top posting. Love your candor.

BTW, please don't worry, it will be fine this season at the very least...

cheers dude.....

I was feeling a little gloomy yesterday so it was right that african pulled me up I guess.

I love spurs they are my passion and try to be honest....my posts reflects my mood.

At the end of the day spurs will not die without bale....... mumorn is right that we have lost class players before and have survived.

though I think I will be bold and say that im my recent memory (was to young to aprreciate hoddle) (gazza was amazing) I dont think we have ever had a player as good as Bale.

his loss would be more severe than berba, modric carrick........

as has been said if we could only hold on to our players and just fill in the missing peices we could really do something.

In all honesty I think its slightly more likely he will leave us i dunno say 60%.

The other thing i would like to clarify is that I respect levy and am grateful for what he has done.....but when you are succesful/respected and you make mistakes it burns more brightly......become a victim of your own sucess.

I feel Levy has made errors for the last 2 seasons in not investing and getting us the players we needed....up front obviously....

I dont expect us to conqueor europe any time soon but I do feel we could have done better even with other teams being financially stronger than us.

So to cut the waffle if Bale stays......even for 1 more season........now is the time for levy to act decisivly........make some tough decisions make sure we have enough quality strikers to finish as high in the league as we can.

I would give my right arm for at least one more season of bale....again i dont care if that sounds dramatic.......being passionate about spurs and spurs doing well is in my blood.

Coys!

Re: Gareth Bale

I care far more about Spurs than any individual player, so I'm really not bothered whether Bale stays or goes.

Those of you that are fantasizing about a team containing Carrick, Modric, Berbatoss: We would never have bought them all without someone leaving first. Some very basic economics there.

Re: Gareth Bale

Again, Bale will be here for at least another season...as for the rest of the analysis, I really think it comes down to people focussing on the congruence of relationship between Levy and AVB. They both agree on the set-up. The only two problems which remain are how much cash we have and whether Levy will be as decisive as he needs to be WHEN the time is right to be so.

I would suggest that the players AVB wants have taken some groundwork already and might require a bit more to find full fruition.

As for Bale and the CL, I have to say that I know of no other player outside the CL who get as much press.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think the problem facing us is the money it's going to cost giving Bale a big pay rise, it might just leave a very limited transfer budget.
I want to keep Bale as much as anyone, but if a bid actually came in of the size being talked about in the papers (£60m+) then we'd have to consider it.
Either way I want a deal done this week, we don't need this casting a shadow across the whole pre season.

Re: Gareth Bale

Marca today

If Gareth Bale wants to sign for Real Madrid he needs to take a very important step. He needs to communicate, in writing, to Spurs that he wants to leave the club. He would need to officially notify the club of his intentions with a duly signed transfer request.

This official request is essential for Tottenham Hotspur to be open to negotiations and, as such, allow Real Madrid to make an approach. As and when the Welsh international formally states this, then the clubs will open communications. The opening moves could be played out in what would likely be a lengthy negotiation process because Daniel Levy, the Tottenham chairman, has been trying to work out how much money he can make on the player for quite some time now.

Real Madrid is certain that the player would be happy to join up, since he'd love to play alongside Cristiano Ronaldo, his idol, and his friend Luka Modric. It's also known that he's a quiet character, and that he's not ready to force an exit or apply as much pressure as Modric did last summer.

If Gareth Bale hopes to make his dreams come true and sign for Real Madrid, then he also needs to play an important part. He needs to take that first small step, which seems like a giant leap for many players, and hand in an official written request to leave the club – his contract doesn't have a release clause.

regarding the first point. i have to say that it makes very little sense to me

the transfer budget is independent to the wage structure and the wages paid would surely be down to operational costs. its as if you are saying that most of the footballing money for the club is tied in with our transfer income.

the next point about getting something sorted soon. can i just ask...have you not been mentally preparing for this onslaught for 2 years now? i know i have.....infact i suspect the real reason no one came in for him two summers ago was because he was injured.

let this thing drag out as long as it wants...come rain or shine ...what will be will be. We knew this would happen , that these days would come and we knew it would be like this.

its down to levy really and i think he might be open for a sale if the money is ridiculously big. let him take as much time to get the best deal he can if in fact thats what he wants....it would be very bad business to take 10 to 20 MILLION less just so the fans dont have to read about bale in the papers

actually i wonder what would hurt more, reading about bale being targeted by madrid....or reading about bale being so happy and excited about actually being there...holding the shirt.....hugging ronaldo etc etc... LOL

let this thing drag on.

oh btw.....i have reason to believe that this whole thing was in the pipeline well before we played liverpool away last season

Re: Gareth Bale

Not really, it was this season and it didn't go that badly at all.

Liverpool relied on Suarez.. United relied on RVP.. the list goes on but i cba.

this season??!!

we started out with

walker, bae,kaboul,verts,caulker, naughton....mixing it up...one new guy

we started out with freidel and blooded in lloris gradually...like REALLY gradually...well done AVB for showing loyalty...so , so far from our back line the have one new guy

in midfielf we had...bale , lennon, sandro...and livermore? am not sure...i think parker wasnt fully fit. but there was no one knew in that group

up front we had siggy in the hole and defoe

so we started the season with just TWO new faces

then we added dembele...who went straight in.....but i think even he came off the bench...but i'll admit that doesnt mean much....he did technically go straight in

so am not sure what you mean by throwing a whole big crop of players into the starting 11 at once mate

edit:-./.....how is ade a new signing? he played an entire season with us. ah seen what said about going back to city and missing pre-season.

so technically if a player is injured in the offseason, or is suspended / lengthy ban...then when he comes back he is considered as a brand new player who has little to no idea what's going on

yeah.....that is a bit of a stretch i think

Re: Gareth Bale

Man Utd would be 45 points worse off without van Persie's goals and assists.

A slight over simplification methinks. Remember the previous season with out RVP Man Utd only just lost the league on goal difference.

Am I the only one who just seems to hate Madrid more and more each day?

I hope Barca wins everything next season.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think this snippet in an article from the Independant shows just how big a **** Florentino Perez is:

Real Madrid president, Florentino Perez, who will be re-elected for another four-year term if no-one steps forward to stand against him in the next 24 hours, was asked if the club needed a Sir Alex Ferguson figure to stabilise the team. He said: “I have enormous respect for Ferguson but you should remember in 27 years he won the Champions League twice.”

Wow, just wow. Taking a shot at the greatest manager ever! How many Champions Leagues have Real won in the last 10 years?

To be fair, they're both ****s when it comes to the way they conduct their business. Add Bayern to that list too after the way they tried to destabilise Dortmund by announcing the signing of Gotze the day Dortmund played the CL semi final first leg. Obviously wanted Dortmund out of the way as they always give Bayern a good game.

Definantly, I hate those kind of statistics as it is basically tells you how they would've done if they'd had 10 men all season minus player x

Re: Gareth Bale

I think thats a fair comment on Fergusson tbh - 2 CL in 27 years, for what is considered by many as the biggest club in the world, isn't exactly a great record.

Man United dwarfed everyone in England financially once the Sky tv/premier league windfall kicked in in the early 90s giving them a huge advantage domestically - but in Europe, up against similar financed Clubs they never had anywhere near the same level of dominence.

Still though he's probably the best domestic manager of the last quarter century.
