Gareth Bale

Re: Gareth Bale

if we are offered like 10 to 15 million short of a HUNDRED million for one player. guys seriously, i think selling is right up in our choices for that price.

infact i think we might even be able to get a better team together

The question is kind of moot. No way is anyone offering 85-90 million for Bale. The media just wants ever-bigger stories to tell.

The question is though... how low will Levy go? Is £50m enough? It's a hell of a lot of money, but could we fill the gap he'd leave behind for that money? And not just on the field. But also in terms of club pulling-power, media profile and so on. How much money will Bale bring to Spurs in terms of merchandise? How much extra will sponsors be willing to pay if they get to associate their brand with Bale? That's bound to knock a few million off the £50m fee.

And will the presence of Bale tip the balance in our favour if David Villa has to choose between us and Liverpool? Or if not Villa, then some other player that would improve our squad? And would AVB view the sale of Bale as a betrayal? What price do you put on that?

Is £50m enough? £55m?

From my perspective, I want to see Bale improve even further, and I want to see him do it in a Spurs shirt. My enduring memory of growing up as a Spurs fan is watching Glenn Hoddle play. My most important Spurs memories are not individual victories... not even cup final wins (though they're good memories too of course). No, it's the fact that I regularly got to see one of the greatest players of his - or any - generation spend the best years of his career playing for Spurs.

We've got that opportunity again with Bale, and it's not an opportunity we get as often as I'd like at Spurs. You're right of course, that from a long-term business sense, and maybe even in terms of success on the field, even Bale has his price and at some point the offer gets so big that Levy would be irresponsible to turn it down. But it's cold logic that tells me that... and for me football is about more than that... it's about wanting to watch world-class players turn out for Spurs every week. And that's less likely to happen if we sell Bale. Whatever the money.

Re: Gareth Bale

If you really think about it, with the kind of silly money being talked about if we sell, and the kind of superstar player we have in Bale should he stay...

...are we in a kind of win/win situation at the moment whatever happens? :-k

definitly not if this is a long drawn out summer of will he go/wont he?

also it would entirly depend how we reinvest said money.....make good decisions........

the best option obviously is to keep bale add quality around him and be succesful next year.......

lots of cash is not neccesarily a win-win......especially if we buy some duds.

still we need a long drawn out saga like modders last year like we need a hole in the head.

I don't know why you're talking so low...is 50 enough? 55? Of course it isn't, certainly not this summer. Nowhere near. I absolutely believe it would take at least 80/85 to get Levy to sell this summer and next I would still expect 60/65. If he has another ridiculous season then I see no reason why a club wouldn't pay an absolutely huge fee.

Re: Gareth Bale

Why would Bale commit to a 170k pw contract at Real Madrid this season when in 2 seasons he very possibly could start negotiating for around 350k? Yes that money's nearly unheard of in football, but wages go up all the time, and by that time who knows where he'll be in the world rankings? Messi and Ronaldo might just have passed their best by then...

Re: Gareth Bale

Real Madrid will go to world record £85m for Bale according to an article in the Sunday Times.

Yes, please.

Until such a thing actually happens, why waste energy fretting over what may or may not happen? I think we've covered pretty much every angle at least twice by now.

Re: Gareth Bale

I think Bale will be the most expensive football player. In 2014 or 2015.

Ronaldo was sold what 3 or 4 years ago. Since then TV rights values have exploded - not just in emerging TV markets but with new media sales channels. Why shouldn't Bale break the £100m mark once he's matured and at his peek?

That all depends on what his motivation is in his career and life.

Re: Gareth Bale

Even when he signs a new deal and says he is 100% staying all your going to get everyday is press speculation till 11pm on Aug 31st, ive blocked it all out now

Re: Gareth Bale

This needs to be sorted in the next month. Take the 90m or dont.

There's no point in getting 90m the day before the window closes. Every team will up their prices and know we are desperate for a replacement.
Look what happened the 50m Liverpool received for Torres.

If Bale is to be sold is it not better to leave it late in the window and buy in a few players before that happens?

Take what 90m?

You actually believe the media that there has been an offer?

Re: Gareth Bale

Why are people still reading and believing all the crap in the red tops and media, seriously...

Re: Gareth Bale

IF

RM offered something like 90m - I would find that very difficult to turn down. I gues depends on whether we have enough cash to buy our reinforcements this year or not.

Re: Gareth Bale

at this rate we'll be able to fund the NDP off the back of selling him

- hypothetically. . . if we sold Bale for a figure which just so happened to be the same as the amount we still had to find so we could build the stadium without taking on ANY debt - would people be happy to put all the Bale fee towards the building of the new stadium?

just think how long Arsenal have taken to pay off theirs and the supposed restrictions on the transfer wage budget during that time - in 3 years time we could be sat in a new stadium with zero debt and able to reap the financial rewards instantly :-k

100% yes

I don't think that's necessarily going to happen to us. The goons's sponsors put it up them without lube when it came to the stadium/shirt sponsorship. I'd like to think we'd get a far better deal.

Whilst the scenario is tempting, I can't see us being in debt for as many years as them.
