Eric Dier

Dier, despite a few sloppy passes, was IMMENSE again today. In the 92nd minute he made a defending run of perhaps 60 yards to stifle a Emirates Marketing Project attack.

i'm usually a bit negative, creeping feeling we are a different animal now

maybe at the end of the season we'll look back and say we blew it

We took city to school today

I think his performances havedropped back as we have got better so he is less noticeable

He has been top top drawer and is so vital to the way we play

I agree, he has enabled the players around to trust what he does and allows them to play their own game. I never felt last season that the defenders had that type of faith in the CM to do the job as well as he does.

Alderweireld was talking up the job Wanyama did for Southampton at the start of the season, highlighting how he made the job of the defenders so much easier.

I spent most of my time as a player at CB and I always played better when the player in front of me had the ability to offer protection to the back four, Dier does this in spades and allows the back four ( and especially the CB's) to perform to their best. This we lacked last season and one of the reasons we conceded so many goals.

Contrast that to Emirates Marketing Project when Lamela burst forward, he was straight into the back 4. Otamendi (I think) decided to come forwards to tackle, Lamela put it through his legs and Eriksen was in.
