Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Hurt it picking his wallet up

LOL! Ade has got to start perfoming for us. The big, broad smile he had last year is gone. He missed all the pre-season. Not sure if it was his fault or not (but I suspect it was largely down to his greed). He needs to start performing again - and soon.

Defoe is not the answer long term - however well he is coping at the moment. He is not a natural lone striker. If Ade doesnt fancy it (and he has an unfortunate track record of throwing hissy fits) then he must be replaced as soon as possible.

thats the crux. AVB never said he opposes Ade leaving, its the chairman/club that would prevent it happening. Its pretty clear there are problems

No it's not. Ade wasn't fit for the start of the season and then got injured. Defoe took his chance and has played well in his absence. AVB is doing the right thing in continuing to select a player in form. What message would it send to the squad if he dropped Defoe the second Ade was available?

ade is throwing a hissy fit. First a hamstring, then a bad back hmmmmmm

seriously?

If AVB did not sign him, he would not be the manager.

cant believe that some people are into these conspiracy theories....

Technically speaking AVB is not the manager, he's Head Coach.

I agree with your conclusion, though. I saw the story in the Standard, while at the pub, and it looks like pure speculation. I'm sure Adebayor is frustrated not to be starting, whether due to injury or selection, but he has to know the situation, like Lloris. How many EL games did Adebayor play last season?

Sadly I think there are a few journalist still batting for 'Arry (I'm not saying its 'Arry's fault). They wanted him to get to England job and when that failed they were outraged when he lost the Spurs job. How could they be so wrong about everything. That plus him upsetting another couple of favourites,Terry and Lampard, last year and AVB is lazy journalist enemy number one.

Torres was damning of AVB's treatment of him. Goalies are important but strikers are the ones who win you games.
It is all very well having a philosophy and a logical, fair policy but....

That's because Torres expects to play all the time, even if he's brick.

the return of bad ade.

if he's going to be a **** and syphon a large amount of our wage allowance, he can purely and simply fudge off.

I read Torres said he did not enjoy running around and not even touching the ball at all for long periods as per AVB's orders. JD would not have the same concerns perhaps?

If true, that tells you all you need to know about Torres.

You are obviously not a Torres fan, then!
I like a system but I like flexibility. We are 5th and in all competitions. AVB is a winner but he lacks experience. How he deals with Ade may be the key to his and our future.

Torres isn't the striker he once was, but this was more about his ego and not being a team player. Claimed he was shocked not to start the CL final.

What makes AVB a winner ? I see several people say this, but I would say the opposite is true. Performances at Chelsea and Spurs lack a winning mentality. Using Mourinho as an example, his teams would fight and put everything into 1 goal leads in the last 5 minutes so they dont concede. Or Ferguson whos team never give up when losing. We've had a couple of chances to pick up points from losing positions and failed to hold on a couple of times during the last 10.

I think AVB is highly knowledgeable on football and puts a lot of thought into general style of play, but the little things to win at all costs is not there.

Oh brick this thread is about Adebayor, better not go off topic... ermm.... good player aint he. Gonna get seriously fed up if AVB doesnt start him in the PL soon.

Porto did go unbeaten the entire season. Winning every game in your league bar three, which you drew, tends to make for a pretty convincing argument when it comes to AVB's winning mentality. At Spurs, we won at Old Trafford. That alone is more than every Spurs manager from 1989 to 2012 has managed to do. We went from 1-0 down to 2-1 up in 20 second half-minutes against Chelsea, only to be undone by, in Gallas' words, 'individual mistakes'. And we did that without Dembele and Bale ,two of our very best players this season. And...never mind.

As for Ade, every time I've seen him he's looked a bit lethargic and disinterested. The difference between him and Defoe is that Defoe's bought into this new system; he closes down, hassle and harries defenders constantly. Whenever Ade's been on the pitch, he's drifted around up front without offering much by way of pressure. I'm willing to put that down to his injury problems and general lack of fitness, which is fine. But you can't expect AVB to start him regularly until that situation improves, just like you couldn't expect Defoe to start very regularly when Ade was in such red-hot form last season. Before anyone says he did start a lot last season, yes, but only in a 4-4-2. With Ade. Which is exactly what AVB is getting criticized for saying he would do, only the other way around.

If we sold him we'd have to pay up the remainder of his contract or reach an agreement with him. History tells us that could be tricky, long winded and cost us a fortune.

I really liked Defoe off the left for admittedly a short period last weekend. If Bale's injured, I'd like to see that as first choice.

If there is any truth to these rumours then what a ridiculous position to be in. surely ade hasnt demanded to be first choice and as he isnt he has had a mass fallout with AVB? i dont understand how footballers can behave like that if true. they get paid a ridiculous amount of money and the least they can do is make themselves available for selection

it didn't work. chelsea understood that defoe was useless out there and just put one man on him and filled in the gaps in defence. in comparison when dempsey was on the left, chelsea hunted him down like a pack of wolves.

Comparitavely speaking, when Dempsey was on the left he didn't even bother trying to take anyone on. Pienaar Mk II at the moment.

At least Defoe picked up the ball and tried to make things happen.
