Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

...one thing some people miss about Bobby mate, is that he works his cobblers off despite the fact it simply has not gone for him here/he's been asked to play against his instinct. He had that horrendous miss against Burnley in the cup, yet kept his head and delivered a wonderful assist second-half. He keeps looking for the ball, he never hides and he contributes to the overall shape/style of play which allows us to work as a unit.

Just not true. He doesn't work particularly hard, his head DOES drop with his confidence and he does hide by not getting in the right positions enough (considering his goal record in Spain he will have 100% been getting in the right positions when his head was up)

Soldado does not get involved in the game enough, cannot hold the ball up and gets bullied to easily. He has ability but people drool over 2 nice touches and a flick in 70mins of anonymity.

You mention the Burnley game again - one of the few games where he actually had a good game (barring the miss) but these are very few and far between.

Let's make things clear - I want both out of the club ASAP but I would have Ade in my team over Bob.

There is a big difference between criticising someone for not contributing enough and being poor on the pitch and people absolutely hammering someone's character, personality, motivation and making very big assertions on his morality - its completely OTT.

I have said it before and i will say it again - Ade is a popular member of the squad and people look for anything to attack him.

I asked similar earlier in this thread; can you explain this and give some examples please?

The most recent example would probably be the match against Sunderland where in 25 mins Ade had more touches and impact than Bob did in 65mins. Suddenly we had someone who could make the ball stick, occupy defenders and bring others into the game and we looked a bigger threat.

Against Sheff Utd Ade was poor (first game in months in all fairness to him) but there are numerous games where Bob barely touches the ball or gets involved in the game but thats because ' the poor (£26m) lad has no confidence' - heaven forbid if confidence issues could also affect Ade? No because he has a bit of swagger about him its because "he's lazy and doesn't care cause i saw him smile during the game when we were 1-0 down.'

Soldado's goals have come against some really average oppo in Europa/Carling Cup (fair play as you can only score whats put in from of you) but in the league we need Ade in our system. Ade will still win headers, allow us to be more direct (important in Poch's system), will give us a focal point in attack and I would back him to score more than Bob would given similar chances.

It is clear that if kane gets injured we are in a lot of trouble, but Ade will really give us so much more in attack for the next 20 or so games. There will be games where i would start Soldado but I am 90% sure that he will find himself as 3rd choice in the next few weeks and for good reason. You can all slag me off all you want but I would be shocked if Poch turns to him over Ade for any amount of time.

Why? Isn't that what has been happening? And why then did Poch/the club try and sell Ade if this would be the case?

I think it's clear Poch preferred to keep Soldado rather than Ade; perhaps the reasons go beyond football abilty, but to say you'd be shocked if Ade doesn't get more gametime than Soldado (which has ALREADY happened since Stoke) seems odd

Earlier this season (maybe late last) Rose/Lennon scored and ran toward the corner flag. A followed and went to ground, while scorer and everyone else stayed on their feet and wheeled away. At the time I sensed he was so out of tune with the team. I might have mis-judged the situation, but he looked so uncomfortable at what had happened and his isolation, whereas everyone else was part of the party.

Are you talking about Lennon's goal vs Arsenal at WHL back in AVB's first season (two years ago)? If not, can you try and remember which goal as this is intriguing (if it happend more recently; there was efinitely a case for that when Lennon scored that winner vs Arsenal in March 2013...)

The sad thing is that for reasons such as wages or the fee levy would want for both ade and soldado we havent been able to move either of them in this january transfer window. I cant stand the lazy african mercenary but think he is more effective than soldado. I dont get where the love for Soldado comes from on this forum.
The games I have seen him in the prem he might as well not beeen on the pitch. Easily knocked off the ball or ushersd out wide by defenders. If he did get in the box I never thought he looked like he would score in a million years.
Before every game I used to think this will be the game he gets a hat trick and proves me wrong. Unfortunately it aint going to happen the Prem is too fast and powerful for him and the best thing is for him to go back to Spain where he will get the time and space and get a few goals( see F Torres couldn't score in the prem, goes back to spain along come the goals again)
Cant stand Adebeyor but think he is more use in the team than Soldado even if it is only one in every six when he decides to turn up, better than zilch.
If I werer the manaager I would be giving time to someone from the youth ranks rather than either Ade or Soldado. At least it would give the youngsters some gametime/ experience with the first team.
Can anyone see both of them at the club at the start of next season?
Sickening as for the transfer fees and money we have wasted on this pair we could have got someone half decent for half the money

LCLC - were you one of those posters who didn't want Soldado given a chance earlier in the season, when Adebayor was on his run of 1 goal in 10, based on his performances last season? Looking back through your post history suggests so. I think you haven't gotten over last season and hold it against him when evaluating his performances this season - every negative enhanced and every positive overlooked, kind of the opposite of how you seem to be evaluating Adebayors performances this season...

All this talk of Ade gives me the perfect opportunity to use my new favourite phrase.

He's just an unacceptable human being.*

*That quote is from a goon but he's a funny one so I'll let him off.

You could be right - but whenever it was I almost felt sorry for him not being in the gang. Given that I never thought he was a good buy, especially at extreme cost, my sympathy was very short-lived. His subsequent form/attitude/behaviours have reinforced my disdain for him.

You mean the 5m fee (the sort of money that now would land you League 1 prospects and Dave Nugent) and the extra 20 -30k in wages than players such as Paulinho, Soldado etc - yeah such an exorbitant amount of money for someone who has scored nearly 50 goals for us and has bordering 30 assists in 3 years.

Ade went home and then was injured - from when he was reintegrated into the squad, he started over him in a semi-final of the cup - Subbed Bob for him at very early stages of the game. As Ade gets fitter I find it hard to see how he won't be called upon (in the more important fixtures anyway) more than him.

Earlier in the season Ade was poor and he still started over Bob in early every game until he went back to Africa. How quickly he has been reintegrated into the squad after such a long lay off shows to me how little faith Poch has in Soldado.

I think the phrase 'caught between the devil and the deep blue sea' is the phrase required here.

Call me a satanist every day of the week.

I certainly wont be calling you that lol

But can you explain why the club have been trying to sell Ade over the last two weeks or so?

Its why they played him in the cup semi and as captain.. shop window. No other reason than that.

After his latest interview I can see Levy having him train on his own or with the kids. Would not surprise me that he is done now.

So what is he doing here still? Were he really to have been and worthy as you feel we would have our doors beaten down by the top clubs.

Instead we were listening to Palarce, Q-Pee-R and Wet Spam not wanting to buy him.

Speaks volumes.

Overall A is not playing ball .... long may that continue.

That's what it looked like to me i must admit...

Wildly erratic as he is, I'd be interested to see Ade in a front two of a 4-4-2 with Kane in his current form. That would be quite handful for most defences. I doubt it is ever going to happen. But given some of the crazy stuff that's happened in around Ade in the past, you never know.
