Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Re: Official - Adebayor

Emmanuel Adebayor is recovering in hospital after contracting a mild bout of malaria.

The Togo international was admitted to hospital on Saturday after reporting feeling unwell to our medical staff. A swift diagnosis meant the disease was detected at an early stage and he is responding well to treatment. The striker is expected to be released from hospital tomorrow and will then require a minimum of seven days before returning to training.

The player has been advised not to travel on medical grounds, which means he will be forced to miss our pre-season tour of North America.

When was the last time Ade attended preseason?

Re: Official - Adebayor

**** knows, either way didn't stop him being our best player last season. As long as he doesn't take the Suarez route out of preseason it's cool by me.
For a handful of matches. He was arguably our worst for the first half of the season and our last 10

Re: Official - Adebayor

Malaria isn't that big a deal. Bad cold. Treated properly it will have passed in a week and he'll be back to normal and able to train.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Can someone please tell me the obsession some have with selling Adebayor as though he's the worst player they've ever seen? I dread to think what would have happened last season if it wasn't for him. Our only close to world-class out field player and people want rid? Dreary me.

Re: Official - Adebayor

If he is ready for training in a week, could it be that he will go to US later than the rest of the squad? He would need time - as all of the others - to play the Poch style I guess.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Pretty sure Zokora got it too didn't he? I thought they have shots for that before you travel so you specifically don't get malaria.

I think people's concern is his inconsistency of effort/dedication.

Across many years and several clubs, it's clear, Ade Mk1 (who wants to play) is a world class striker that any team would want. Ade Mk11 doesn't give a **** and not a top 6 player.

The big issue is which one do you get, for what percentage of the season and can any club gamble on a player that has that much of a variance between games/seasons

The solution I guess is not to throw away the baby with the bath water but make sure you have an alternative bath to wash the baby if the water gets dirty... another decent second striker who can come in and replace him if he starts to slack.

That analogy doesn't work as it assumes the baby is both something you want to keep and a non-cost option.
Ade's wages are that of two very good players and attitudes are infectious. Much like diseases that you haven't taken basic steps to avoid.

Re: Official - Adebayor

Didn't Kanoute also have malaria ? seemed to get on well enough for us and whoever he went to later.

I think Drogba had it can't recall Kanoute having it. Only issue is once you've got it, it stays in the system and can flare up again at another time.

Re: Official - BAE

Malaria is an entirely avoidable disease.

Yup, it is. Don't go to Africa. That's the best way to avoid it.

Unfortunately if you have family there, it's not really an option.

Are we to start blaming people for injuries they get now too? Oh, he's broken his ankle, that was an entirely avoidable injury.

If he injures himself doing something avoidable (like playing 5 a side), yes.

In that sense we're lucky. The very, very last thing we have to worry about is Ade playing more football than we're paying him to.

Re: Official - BAE

So long time lurker and dont post basically as i cant be bothered to argue or be belittled. However im callling bu*****
So i went backpacking for a year last year including a stint through africa, was on all the anti-malarials, took precautions with netting etc.
Still got malaria, still 1year on suffering side effects as i didnt get treated immediately.

Now i guarantee Adebayor will be fine having quick and very good access to best medical facilities, but to go around with statements like "Malaria is an entirely avoidable disease." shows a complete lack of knowledge!
