Emmanuel Adebayor - Officially gone \o/

Re: Official - Adebayor

Not buying a word of that.

Just unnecessary, thinly veiled digs at AVB. Him saying that he trains hard is laughable considering it's been quite the contrary at every club he's played at.

Adebayor reverts to type when he has nothing to prove and I wouldn't expect him to carry any this form over to next season if he stays.

Actually from what I have heard/read he does train hard even in the 'offseason'

Re: Official - Adebayor

its amazing that sherwood didn't slam both ade and paulinho for getting out of the way for that goal.
i'd block the ball in my church game, these guys are paid professionals - its clearly failure to do their job.

maybe ade is hoping that sherwood will bring him along to his next club.

This is true

Re: Official - Adebayor

I don't understand why we would sell him unless we are bringing in two other strikers of similar quality. He's still a top top striker IMO. Just because he doesn't score every week he gets dinged IMV, and it's unfair...IMV.

I don't think anyone expects him to score every week. It's the not turning up (figuratively and literally) that I don't like.

It's not about his quality when in form, it's about the difference between his best and worse and how much time he spends at various points on that scale.

In short, can we trust him to perform for a full season? Or is it more likely that a replacement can perform at a higher level over a full season?

It also depends on the manager we bring in. Had we managed to secure LvG I would be almost convinced that they would clash in a bad way sooner or later and that we should look to replace him. Poch is someone that seems to want a lot of hard work consistently from all of his players, not sure how well Ade would fit into that, a bit like the story was with AVB. Martinez, yeah, I could see that work perhaps. FdB, I have no idea.

Re: Official - Adebayor

And it remains to be seen how much of a team player he can when he is off form and needs to be benched.

Agree with this. You just never know if the Mk1 or Mk2 Ade is going to turn up. Needs some serious competition at the very least.

Part of the problem is that serious competition is also somewhat likely to **** him off.

Can you imagine Ade being restricted to EL group stage games for a month or two because his serious competitor is in **** hot form? Ade would be sulky within an hour into the flight to Kraznoplodskostan and it would probably stick.

At least when Soldado has been out of the team this season he's tried to come back with a vengeance, he's worked hard and looked really up for the fight. Sulky Ade is pretty close to useless.

Partly agree with you. But Ade with no competition soon becomes lazy Mk2 version. He has said in the past that he relishes competition and has always come out top dog when there is a fight for places ( or words to that effect). On balance, I would prefer him to have competition to keep him honest.

Re: Official - Adebayor

the unfortunate position with ade is that you cant have him competing with other strikers.
like BE says if hes is out of the team he'd throw shiit fit. you also can't rely on him being number 1, as its proven undeniably that he simply cant be bothered for at least 50% of the sides matches.

so you have to accept having a potentially top striker for 50% of your games and a disinterested empty shirt for the other, or you look elsewhere.

its not surprising that at Emirates Marketing Project he was completely frozen out before he left. he isnt one who is going to thrive on competition for places, quite the opposite in fact.

net result? far, far more trouble than he's worth. and due to Emirates Marketing Project's idiocy, he's now very, very expensive trouble too.

This. Where would be this season without Ade's goals? Mid table? Bottom half? Like him or not, he's been productive, and doubt we are in a position to sell him with so many issues/questions up front. Ideally, at this stage in his career he shouldn't always be the main man. Play him one game a week and I think he'd be effective.

Unbelievable the love Soldo gets without scoring. He could do the same next season and some would still love him. He was bought here to score goals. He tries? Yeah, and a lot of players try. As they should. Don't currently see how we are going to 'change our system' to accommodate him, nor him change for us. Hope I'm wrong. He's missed a bunch of sitters anyway, and he seems limited in the PL.

Re: Official - Adebayor

He is a maddening player he now seems to be back to not too bothered Ade. Of course the bigger problem is we are kind of stuck with him. I would rather have Ade who at least half the time will be a top notch striker than with Soldado who we still never know will come good and should try to recoup some money on while we can. I really don't see any truly top class strikers who we will be able to afford and willing to come to us in the summer so should be more of the same next season.

Re: Official - Adebayor

I know hes still studying journalism but that's a pretty shoddy effort. No attempt at all to construct an article out if it. Basically just a transcript.
