Djed Spence

I think the point is that we don't know what the reason was for him not being used more sooner.

However Ange is managing Spence he's getting great performances out of him now so I doubt there are big issues.

Worth mentioning that while he is 24 now and not exactly a kid he's still fairly young. And at this level and against PL opposition fairly inexperienced. Also essentially new to this system and role this season. And he's had injury problems.

For a player like that to be integrated a bit slowly, taking around half a season to be integrated really isn't a big deal. Compared to what Ange did with VdV, Kinsky and some others it's a bit "slow". But nothing unusual.
But if Spence had been deployed a bit more often the chances are Udogie would not have been run into the ground and would have been less likely to have picked up the injuries he has this season.

Yes, that is a very real possibility.

1. Ange rates Spence. And he rated Spence either for the here and now or some point in the future this summer. Or he wouldn't be here.
2. Ange does things for a reason.

So when despite the obvious risk of overplaying he didn't use Spence more earlier I'm assuming he had his reasons, and we don't know what they were.

Not sure any manager can complete the full picture until they release the players into first team games though.

Ironically, the one place we haven't seen Spence play much so much is his own position at RB. Only 2 starts there apparently.
