Destiny Udogie

Better to play people in their natural positions rather than out of position. I’d be amazed if Gray starts at FB for us this week. What’s the point of having Davies in the squad if he doesn’t play in these games?

Gray has played more at rb than any other position. He's why at leeds spence played lb.

You might be right. But.
Gray needs to play. Spence was on the bench sat.
Bissouma unless he has burned all bridges should get time. Sarr didn't start. Then you have the likes of tel, muani, solanke.
Yes....and all of them will play. Maybe not Biss, depends what's gone on.

Walker and Rose were by some distance the best FBs of my lifetime. But i think all out current 3 could reach that level, and i think Udogie has the highest ceiling of them
Pretty much agree with that, though somewhat uncertain on who has the highest ceiling.

Great to have all three fit and available (for now at least). Very much needed.

I think some of the poor performances and resulting criticism of Porro and Udogie has been a result of them having to play because a lack of options. Fatigue, niggles, just keep playing. If we can keep all three fit and rotate sensibly I think all three have really great performance levels in them.

I believe Spence being around has been good for Udogie who I believe has a higher ceiling as a left back. I also think Frank being around will be another massive differentiator for Destiny.

In my mind, Udogie has the highest ceiling at left back. If he can lose the petty fouling, work on his some of the technical assets and stay fit then his physique and athleticism will take him the rest of the way. He will be a major force. We do need a Destiny Mk2 in the squad though as Davies exits the roster. At that time Destiny will be 23 so that probably means we can go young again in our purchasing options.

Destiny has everything to be the best LB/LWB in the league imo. He's not doing a lot wrong at the moment. Some petty fouling is ridiculous falling over by opponents (buying a foul). Plus you have to make allowances fo how we played under Ange and how that reflected on Udogie.
He's not perfect (yet) but I have no doubt he's very much going to be in the plus column when we looks back in 5 years.

It's a shame there doesn't look to be any FB standouts in the academy as of yet.

(Glad he's got rid of the hairband btw)

Yeah, not seen him this season and I know everyone was raving about his last performance.

What I saw in the past was him being over zealous. He wasn't going to ground, just making it so easy for the refs to give fouls. They were absolutely fouls as well. I remember writing in the past that he needed to be a little less Mr Blobby in his approach to winning the ball back.

Really rate the kid though.

We saw his performance level when he joined (a continuation of his form from Udinese). Gradually over time probably influenced by his first injury but also Ange's system at tactics his defensive qualities seemed to ebb away to the extent that we kind of forgot how solid he was initially. Udogie just needs coaching, at least with Frank we know he's going to create the space for him to thrive and he's using him in a manner that suits his play style best.

Yeah. Udogie, Spence and Porro all established, trusted, fairly dependable despite not being old hugely experienced players. Another young LB with big potential could be very useful at some point. Particularly if we also keep our more experienced centre backs. Should be fairly high up the list of targets, either that or a LB/LCB hybrid player.

Id much rather a specialist LB, rather than a utility. Esp as Vuskovic will be back next year as our second LCB

It's always a good conversation. I somewhat agree with you. We're currently loaded up with Romero, VDV, Danso and Dragusin plus Vuskovic, Takai, Dorrington and Phillips at centre half. The chances are we end up with a very good quartet or quintet of centre halves.

It is important to have like-for-like specialist replacements especially when you're faced with mid to long term injuries. I think we also need a pure leftie at LB with the way Franks sets up.

Agreed. He was great when he first arrived, showing exactly what he showed on Saturday. So we know what he is capable of.

I think his basic standard is just very high due to his skill set in that position. Hopefully Frank can utilise him tactically to maximum effect

I've turned on Udogie. Was excited about him in the first few games after he signed, now I think he is lazy and unproductive. He is poor defensively, especially man marking, doesn't rush back after we lose possession and his supposedly good skills going forward are seen less and less during games. I would start with Spence on the left, no question. Theo Hernandez, one of the best LBs in the world imo, was available on the market for less than 25m this summer and we should have jumped on him like a fat kid on the cookie jar. Considering we only have 3 WBs, I am sure Udogie will get plenty of playing time and chances to prove himself again.

He's just back and still gaining match fitness methinks. Personally I'd prefer Udogie and Spence now, and drop porro for his poor 1v1 defensive skills

The right wing is our only source of creativity at the moment. Taking out Porro reduces that. If we're playing a weaker team were we will have the majority of the ball we need Porro and Kudus in order to break the opposition defence down. Against top opposition there's a bigger case for Spence over Porro.

It was noticeable the other week against Wolves how having Spence at RB was to the detriment of our attacking play - he is nowhere near Porro's level going forward, whilst of course you can say he is the better defender. Udogie is for me still the best LB as he gives balance but is inconsistent, I honestly think full back area is not as strong as some think. The only positions where I think we can sit back and say we have quality and to an extent depth is CB and CM, a lot of other positions we really could work on IMO....
