Cristian Romero

Neither are first choice. Neither has been heavily rotated in. Romero and VDV have been selected every time they've been available. In terms of him playing the Ipswich game he was the only 1st choice CB possibly available.

Sure he played injured, but Romero strikes me as the type of player that would do that anyway. The point is he didn't need to play injured or fake his fitness to play for Argentina. You keep talking as if he only played so he could play internationally when the two things aren't linked at all.

He played because he's a hard nut type, he played because he knew if he didn't we would only have 1 official CB available and no 1st choice options. He played because he's part of the leadership group and he felt sacrificing himself while playing with a smallish niggle wouldn't be the end of the world for him and would be for the best for us.

Got to love how everyone sees the positive some players actions and negative in others
And it’s hardly a smallish niggle as we can clearly see now the focus is on his recovery rather than his next game

I'm not saying it was a small niggle I'm saying he and the club obviously thought it wasn't a major issue, otherwise they wouldn't have played him.

But it makes it much easier for him to go to play for his country if he plays for us first
Means he doesn’t get checked out by drs in advance for example
And causes him and the country no agro in call him up
I even said it before the Ipswich game started
Some injuries there are miracle cures
Some injustices there isn’t
And footballers are stupid when injured
Not sure about much easier. Would depend on how the club reacted and how much of a hassle it would be to get checked out by doctors.

He also risked worsening his injury playing for us (clearly that was something that could have happened) meaning that playing that game also could have stopped him playing those internationals.

It’s very hard for a country to call up a player who missed the club previous game though an injury. It rattles if ever works out well (can’t think of any examples where it has worked if I’m honest)
Yep
He risked his injury by playing
I live the idea that playing though pain to help the team is valiant. I’d genuinely love that
But what I do know, with a lot of confidence is some players put playing for their country at the highest order … way over club

How hard it is would depend on what the club said, no? If the club said no, the player is injured it would be harder. But if the club doesn't say that it's no harder than any other call up.

I think most players play through pain and injuries at times. It's nothing new.

Pain is one thing
Not brown able to walk properly is another
All players play through pain

It's not difficult to call him up at all. They have the priority to do so.

If he put playing for Argentina ahead of us the simplest solution would be to sit the Ipswich game out and then join up with Argentina. The fact that that isn't what happened should tell you that the narrative you're trying to spin has no legs and no logic.

It really isn’t that simple
They can call up whoever they want
But if a club say they aren’t fit the national team then has a duty to prove his is
That’s a lot of effort
As I said earlier, it’s much easier for a player to play a game and then go than it is for him to be injured and then go
We see much much more of the opposite here now. Players being “injured” so they miss internationals. Different levels of appetite to perform for club or country
Fans can believe what they want I guess
But as I’ve repeatedly said
He went of injured in the game before Villa
Was left to recurve vs Gala
Pressed on Friday was he was a possible player for Sunday
Plays the game and was poor and off the pace (my opinion, not a science based fact)
He goes away and goes off with the same injury half way through the game
Then can’t okay the next game due to his missus giving birth (in London I think)
Then back here and injured since
A smart player and arguably a smart club would have said after the Ipswich game and ideally before the game that hey, your only playing on intentional and you have an injury… don’t travel and recuperate
Don’t play vs Ipswich either
But as fans we don’t know what was said or done

Who is surprised though?

Romero is 26 years old and has only ever managed over 40 games in a single season for his club once in his entire career. For 42 games he has been unavailable to Spurs through injury since he arrived in the 21/22 season. We'll do well to get 30 games out of him this season.

We should absolutely not be operating with just 4 centre halves in this squad with guys like Romero as one of them.

I'm gonna try and find it but he has mentioned in a interview that we need to invest and called out the board a little!!

The truth is, I would say no comment, but... Emirates Marketing Project competes every year, you see how Liverpool strengthens its squad, Chelsea strengthens their squad, if one doesn't do well, they strengthen again, and now they're seeing results. Those are the things to imitate. The last few years, it's always the same people responsible [at Tottenham].Hopefully, they [Tottenham hierarchy] realise who the true responsible ones are, and we move forward because it’s a beautiful club that, with the structure it has, could easily be competing for the title every year."[Universo Premier podcast /

This.

We’ve 2 first choice CBs who rarely play much more than 30 games per season whilst Dragusin only seems to get minutes at RCB after Romero has sustained his latest injury and vdV’s cover is in the twilight of his career.

Combine that with not having a single #6 in the squad who can be trusted to shield the back line for 90 minutes plus a pair of FBs who have been run into the ground.

Hopefully young Archie Gray will be able to step up and cover all these positions until Regulion and Spence can be replaced with players the gaffer trusts plus Bentancur is able to play again.
