I agree with this.
Zubimendi probably wouldn’t come to us but perhaps Udogie can tap up Samuele Ricci whilst he’s away with Italy
I agree with this.
Sell him to who?Think it's a good deal, sell him and keep VDV then slot in an experienced cb who just loves defending.
There's a thought going around that he pushed himself to be back for that game even though he riskes missing out on internationals because he knew VdV was out and we needed him. Well, there is that thought going around now that I've said it...I did not think he should've started based on the information we had (which is obviously thousands of miles from the real information LOL)...it is an issue that the club need to address as it does not help the player or the club. There is a thought going around which says the reason he declared himself fit to play against Ipswich was because he did not want to miss international duty. Who knows? I know he is VERY popular with his team mates.
As for the incredulousness with regards to criticisms of Romero this season, I think there's a middle path reality and, indeed, a dialectic.
Romero is a wonderfully talented footballer and he has been under-performing for most of the season.
I'll try another.
Romero is the most talented CB we have by some distance and he has made too many unforced errors leading to goals to be ignored.
Nothing is black and white.
What we do know factually is that he was injured before our last league game
He didn’t play on the Thursday or travel because of his injury
But he was ok for the Sunday game the day before travelling to play for his country
Anything else is conjecture
What we do also know is Argentinian players take a pride for their country greater than almost anything else.
We also now know that the injury he recovered form to play against Ipswich is the same injury he pulled up at half time in for his country
He wouldn’t have been able to travel for his country if he wasn’t for the Ipswich game
PassThe injury was quite intriguing actually. I can't imagine Spurs self confessed hard man wanted to miss a game due to a little ligament in one of his toes.
Not strictly speaking the case, Argentina can and probably would have called him up themselves to assess the I jury if he said he thought he was fit enough. A player doesn't need to be fit the game before to play internationally. What we do know factually is that he was injured before our last league game

Ligament damage that would cause him to feel pain whenever he struck the ball? You find that surprising? Huh.The injury was quite intriguing actually. I can't imagine Spurs self confessed hard man wanted to miss a game due to a little ligament in one of his toes.

Never seen anywhere that a national FA couldn't call up a player if they were ineligible due to injury in their last game for their club. Not strictly speaking the case, Argentina can and probably would have called him up themselves to assess the I jury if he said he thought he was fit enough. Depends on the relationshipNever seen anywhere that a national FA couldn't call up a player if they were ineligible due to injury in their last game for their club.
If there's been a disagreement there have been cases where the national team medical staff have assessed the player. If the county calls them up and they want to go the club have to release them.

I agree that there's a middle ground. I think some of the criticism of him has been unfounded, but I can agree that he's made too many mistakes (while also being really good most of the time).
What I don't get is that ending up with the idea that he should be sold, dropped for Dragusin or similar.
I pretty much agree word for word, apart from the "in the league" part.I want the manager to feel that he can do what is necessary to pick the best side to win. If any player is underperforming, they should not be beyond being dropped or 'rested'. That goes for anyone IMO - Sonny, Brennan, whoever. Romero should be no different. I have no idea what is behind is topsy-turvey season beyond my own personal speculation (which I will keep to myself). I do not, however, subscribe to the fact that any player is undroppable. If the manager feels dropping him would help motivate/rest/whatever, then I hope he does. If he were dropped I don't think it would be a huge shock basedf solely on performance levels.
He is absolutely our best CB, and most probably the best CB in the league, but if he is consistently being inconsistent then it is a huge problem, given his importance to us and his pedigree as a player. For me, it isn't about 'he should' more than 'no-one is above it'.
It’s also an indication on what is the alternative and what Ange is prioritisingI pretty much agree word for word, apart from the "in the league" part.
I definitely don't think anyone should be undroppable. I don't think anyone is to Ange. He's dropped Maddison. He hasn't dropped Son, but he has at least subbed him when he wasn't happy to be subbed. I don't think Ange is in the business of having anyone being beyond being dropped out rested.
My disagreement isn't with you on this. My disagreement is with those saying he should be dropped (I think pretty much verbatim), or sold/replaced. With those saying that him not being dropped/rested/rotated is Ange making a mistake.
To me Ange sticking with him is imo an indication of how good he is and how important he is to us.
