Contingency planning : When Ange is sacked, who should replace him?

Gemini has decided..

Q/If Montgomery Burns was selecting the next Tottenham Manager who would he select

A/Given Montgomery Burns's character traits – ruthless, profit-driven, and dismissive of human value – his choice for Tottenham Hotspur manager would likely prioritize these factors:
  • Ruthlessness: A manager who demands absolute obedience and isn't afraid to make tough decisions, even if it means sacrificing players or popular figures.
  • Profit Potential: Someone who can maximize revenue, whether through increased ticket sales, lucrative sponsorship deals, or by developing and selling young players for a profit.
  • Low Cost: Ideally, a manager who is either cheap to hire or someone who can be easily manipulated and controlled.
Considering these, Burns might be drawn to a manager with a history of:
  • Authoritarian Leadership: A manager known for their strict discipline and no-nonsense approach.
  • Financial Success: Someone who has a track record of generating revenue or maximizing profits for their clubs.
  • Limited Reputation/Influence: A manager who is relatively unknown or has a tarnished reputation, making them easier to control and less likely to demand high wages or challenge Burns's authority.
Some potential (fictional) candidates in the Burns mold might include:
  • "The Iron Fist" Ferguson: A manager known for his brutal training methods and uncompromising demands.
  • "Moneybags" Malone: A manager primarily focused on financial gain, willing to sacrifice sporting success for profit.
  • "The Yes Man" Smith: A meek and easily influenced manager who would readily follow Burns's orders.
Ultimately, Burns's choice would be driven by his desire for absolute control and maximum profit, regardless of the impact on the team's performance or the players' well-being.

Terzic would be a great appointment too, very similar set up to Ange but more balanced and direct attacking

I'm beginning to question how good the Lange and Munn partnership are. They have bought a bunch of teenagers and Solanke. And this month looks like SFA. I want Paratici back.

Heard on podcast that physio department don't have a senior physio and they are people who have just left uni. Now not sure how legit that info is, but explains the mere we are having. Also explains them making changes and yet smacks of us saving money and letting people learn on the job!!

I mean it would be just ridiculous for that to be true. But also I wouldn't be surprised

Gray and Bergvall look like excellent young players, already performing well at 18 in the PL. Making an impact already, as I think was the hope when we signed them. Odobert has been injured almost throughout, but looks to me like a good signing. Solanke has been really good.

Similarly Kinsky looks like a really good signing and great business. Identifying a player not only talented, but able to step up to this level quickly and fitting well into the system.

The time to evaluate the window is when it closes and then again in time as the players settle in and develop. Not based on what it looks like with over a week of it left.

But also there when Unai Emery was appointed
Very good point.

Agree on most of this. I do feel, though, that once again we have left it very late. Injuries have been mounting up for a couple of months at least, and it's been obvious for quite some time that we were going to need oven-ready additions. Now there is a week left, clubs know (with the additional injuries over the past few days) that we are now really desperate...

If leaving it late is OK or not depends to me on who, if any, we get in. Discussion on this in the transfer thread too with some good points brought up I think.

Don't think this is the time to evaluate the window though.

The urgency of recruiting was properly blown up by the Solanke injury (on Saturday).

On Friday we were probably feeling a lot more comfortable on the fortnight ahead (although still not ideal).

Richie was back, Mikey Moore back and Benny back and likely our two starting CHs back by the end of the window. Bents back as well.

The issue with Solanke missing is he is SO VITAL to how we play...any other player playing there is sub optimal.

With BJs calf being iffy as well, an urgent need for a CF/WF has arisen. A loan is the ideal solution as needs must, and we don't want to be stuck with a player that we weren't sure about or done the extensive due diligence on.

I don't think the urgency or priorities with regards to position/role should change much, if at all, based on one injury (unless a season ender or multiple months thing).

A forward player has been a priority for us already, with Ange confirming that we at least had interest in Muani.

The ideal solution is to sign a player that we (the club) really like, for now and the future. A player we would have wanted to sign in the summer if not possible now. There's still time for that imo, and what I hope is being worked on.

As well as looking at potential loan/urgent needs type signings if the ideal solution can't happen.

I agree that a forward should be one of the priorities. But really I would rather fix any issue properly than emergency short term "fix" a specific position. If that can't be done get an emergency option in a priority position.

But there are still holes not addressed in the previous 3 windows.
