Circus ManUnitus - Nobody's At The Wheel

Managerial genius LVG .. fudging blank cheque book is not what I call ability ...

fudging thing is, Mourinho will still beat him ..

LVG really is a genius isnt he, how much has he spent now £300m, where's the youth or has that been forgotten about at United now

great coup to buy the "pig climber", he's still a top class player

I prefer pigmounter :)

Schweinsteig is a town, though, I believe, albeit clearly with some sort of historical connection to pig-droving, and I think SS's name derives from that. As in Ich bin ein Berliner.

I agree with this....the whole make up of Man United has changed, no youth and multiple huge signings. I am not saying that Fergi didn't spend big but he was like Mourinho now, add one or two key players a summer and work with the core.

Fergie was so good he could make up for the deficiencies in the squad, he fudged up though IMO by letting the the squad degrade to such a level. Yes LVG is spending money hand over fist but it needs to be done for them to compete with Chelsea.

Its like FM with cheat mode on. Football has got ridiculous, they should cap transfers to £50m a season and also wages at 100k p/w but I guess the tax on wages has a big say on why that will never happen.

This. No manager in the world could have competed with that squad bar Fergie. I don't even think it was necessarily him making up deficiencies, more that he had total control over the players and knew how to squeeze the most out of them, just like Wenger during the lean years at le scum.

Either way, a massive spending spree was the only way out of that rut.

I can't see United (or anyone else bar Chelsea) winning the title next season. It is far too much of a transition.

2016-7 will be the year that LVG will either make serious waves and win the title, or become a genuine laughing stock.

Right now, I think he's doing well.

It will never happen unfortunately. I've said it before put them all on £5k per week and up to £50k per week depending on performance - goals, assists, clean sheets etc...

I hate modern football.

Amen to that, if it was not for having Spurs in my blood I would have turned my back on it years ago.

if someone decided to put a cap on how much I could earn in my industry i'd be pretty tinkled off

the problem isn't that players earn so much, its that society deems them so worthy, which it does, i'm sure there will come a point when things reverse but right now the hunger for the game is insatiable

only an apocalyspe or a severe global depression will reverse it imo

Football and real life can't be compared in monetary terms. If I was earning £50k a week for several years then someone come along and said right you're on £5k now and bonuses depending on performance I'd think oh well I've got away with it for this long fair dos.

I applaud your attitude, I fear my response would be "fudge you, pay me, that's what I'm worth, if you don't think so I'll go elsewhere"

assuming of course the entire industry hadn't collapsed

I don't think anyone could handle a 95% pay cut, you are bound to have committed recurring spends, was it Craig Bellamy who turned down moves offering first team football because the lower wages meant he wouldn't be able to continue his commitment to a charity?

Manchester United are the Barca/Real Madrid of the Premier League. The side that is supported by the media, who the media want to do well and will rarely criticise except in moments where it would be deemed socially inappropriate for them not to be criticised. The signings are linked by the media, with the idea that hopefully those players will join. Why does the media have such a vested interest? Well, given the support that the club has in the UK, if the club are successfully then the media creates a higher volume of stories about the club with which to attract the Manchester United followers and to increase the number of viewers, and so the success of the club, or at least the perceived strength of the club, helps the media to bring in extra viewers which helps the strength of the media.

Ok, so maybe that's a conspiracy theory but I can't believe that it's a million miles off of the truth, given the antics that are regularly displayed by certain sections of the media.
