Christian Eriksen

We have a lot of very good players but ( imo) the one that we would miss most is Eriksen, we managed to get by ( very well) at times last season without Jan, Toby, Kane, Rose, Dembele but if we were to lose Eriksen for similar periods we would struggle. Without a doubt he is the heartbeat of our team ( imo) and he makes my pants sticky.

that was probably down to our lack of creativity in the advanced positions whilst Lamela was injured - with him back soon(ish) and potentially Barkley as well we will not miss Eriksen as much as we did last season should he be rested/injured etc

not a slight on the player that, just imo we didn't miss the other players you mention because we had able cover for them, which wasnt the case for Eriksen for the majority of the season.

Fair points, the big problem is again ( imo) that there are not many players around who are as good as Eriksen and they are like rocking horse brick. Eriksen is the nearest we have had since Modric ( players who do control games and it all goes through them), i do like Lamela but he does not offer us what Eriksen does ( imo) as for Barkley well at best all we can say about him is that i am not convinced he will be able to do the same ( at least not for a couple of seasons under Poch and that still has to be seen).

the game goes through Eriksen because that is how the team is set up - ie to ping off of the creative outlet in the final third, replace Eriksen with another creative player and the game will go through them in a similar way, arguably not as well but in a similar fashion.

time will tell but im confident with Lamela and/or someone like Barkley available we wont see such a drop in our attacking play in the games Eriksen doesn't play

You are right it does go through Eriksen, but it is not just down to the team set up because you can not just have any player in there who can do that. Eriksen ( just like Modric before him) is a special player and despite what some may think they are not many around that are as good as him.

As for Lamela ( and as i say i am a fan of his) i do not believe he would do that job as well. Stop! Hammer time but mine is that we would miss him more then any other player.

Lamella is a final third player and imo doesn't have the same passing range or style as Eriksen

I'd actually say the Lamella is more about cute passes like the slide rules and balls through the middle where as Erisken is about the clever passes like the longer balls and wide passes.

Lamella plays more like a Sanchez and Erisken more like scholes

Interesting.

For me Eriksen is more of a final third player than Lamela. When they play together I see Lamela dropping deeper more often and Eriksen staying further up the pitch more often.

For me Eriksen is lethal if we can find him in a little bit of space in or around the box. Final ball, clever passes, shots, crosses, either foot. He's certainly capable of playing deeper too, but for me his biggest strength is his end product and the more he can be involved in the final third the better.

What we did really well when playing well last season was exactly finding Eriksen in that little bit of space in the final third. When we were worse earlier in the season we didn't mange this as often and Eriksen looked worse as a result.

I love erisken when he drops back into midfield as he just has that passing ability and vision

Dont get me wrong he is great in the final third but he plays like Madrid when he comes deep and I'm convinced We can sacrifice a holder in a lot of games next season as teams simply won't attack us as much so we can have erisken playing in midfield

I think Winks might get more game time in that deeper role. Eriksen in some games and particularly when we're chasing a goal in the second half makes sense, as it gives us another goalscoring threat when we're looking to overload the opponent.

In a lot of games though I think we'll struggle to replace the goals and assists Eriksen gets from the more advanced role if we move him deeper. Again I really think his end product is his greatest strength.

We can't replace Erisken that's for sure
I like winks in midfield too and he drives the game forward
If we lose Erisken for whatever reason we I'll need others to step up (maybe Lamella)

For what it's worth, statistics in 2015-16 show the following:

Passes per 90 minutes
Eriksen: 55.3
Lamela: 36.7

Long passes per 90 minutes
Eriksen: 2.1
Lamela: 0.7

Obviously not definitive proof that Eriksen comes deeper more often, but I think an indication - given that passes and long passes decrease the further up the pitch you go (i.e. CMs have more than AMs, AMs have more than strikers)

2016-17 passes per 90 minutes
Dembele: 64
Wanyama: 59
Eriksen: 56
Alli: 39
Son: 34
Kane: 21

In any case I think these stats certainly show that Eriksen keeps us ticking much more than any other attacking player, which I think everyone agrees with.

Not only is he a great player he talks a lot of sense as well.

Christian Eriksen is happy Tottenham are ignoring the Premier League's obsession with gargantuan transfer fees.

Mauricio Pochettino has not yet brought in any new faces this summer as their rivals spend big, with Eriksen believing the club learnt lessons after misusing a world-record fee for Gareth Bale in 2013.

Of the seven players signed that summer on the back of Bale's switch to Real Madrid, only Eriksen and Erik Lamela remain on Tottenham's books

For the Dane, those mistakes serves as proof that huge summer outlays can be detrimental.

'It's an English thing, isn't it?' Eriksen said. 'It's an English thing where you have to spend money to win something apparently.

'When I came here there were seven new players at the same time and you saw how that ended. The last few seasons we haven't bought as many players and it's changed around. Of course you have to have a philosophy, a plan and it looks like we have one.

'If you buy a lot of players everyone needs to know what is going on straight away and be a bit lucky. We are lucky at Spurs at the moment. Everybody knows what's going on and what needs to be done.'

Eriksen, speaking after holding a Q&A with 20 Special Olympics athletes in Orlando, stressed that Tottenham cannot look at relocating to Wembley as a potential excuse.

'You take one season at a time but everyone knows we have been very close the last two seasons,' he added.

'In that time something has been brewing and now this is the third season with the manager to become even better than we were.'

I'm surprised no one here is talking up his golazo against PSG. I think that might encourage him to try his luck more from distance.

He could do a Coutinho and shoot 20 times a game from all over the pitch in hope of 1 going in.
