Cann we make the top 4 or 5?

Define a long time?
I mean we finished above Chelsea last season so we’re better then
May even better this year but won’t know until May
I think we have changed and I’ve seen plenty of positives but I’ve seen the so things that are just repeated time and and time again and they are what wind me up

I'd say since February this year, but if you take a long view, maybe things haven't changed much since the Chelsea game last November. But i'll stick to February because that's where all the excuses about injuries/missing personnel relatively dry up for me.

We barely finished above Chelsea due to how we collapsed near the end of last season. We were barely better than Chelsea and potentially could be worse this season (though we could get better).
Chelsea look like they've improved, especially in defence. We look as woeful in defence as ever.

My problem is that i can barely name any players who after being with Ange a long time have gotten better.
I also can't remember the last time in the manager's second full season we lose 5 out of the first 11 games. It's not looking good and i'm seeing very few signs of hope/progression to cling onto...

Well I can name some who have got better under Ange but it’s all opinions
Kulu for one
Both full backs (remember the comments on Porro when he started out under conte)
Sarr too
Bissouma is arguably playing better under Ange
Not always possible to say if it’s coaching of course or the set up

And on Chelsea they look better but also still a bit random. Europe doesn’t affect them because they have 2 squads and they are playing pub teams but they have been getting a decent mix of results. Their coach seems to be good but I’d need a longer sample size to judge

Still think we are still in with a chance for sure especially if we can find some consistency, however i would much rather see us winning a pot [ its been a long time]. At least if we can do that it will [i hope] shut down some of the moans and growns from some fans about never winning anything.

You mean fans like yourself?;)

As long as the league is playing out how it is then we have a chance, had we won on Sunday then we'd mostly all be sat here quite excited and confident, that shows how on a knife edge things are. Trouble is there are about ten other clubs in a similar position.

The problem is that, apart from Villa, we show little ability to be able to win those games against those who would believe are our competition for the top positions. We barely win against teams in the top half now. Which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we won all the other games.

However, we have now started to cough up points against bottom of the table teams too...

Dunno
We were as good as Arsenal at home and lost due a dubious corner
We played city in the cup with both teams weakened and turned up
Did better at Saudi Sportswashing Machine than the really gave us
We can play
The results post European comps is the killer

So we’re 3 points off them having lost 5 games
That’s a positive right.
Or we have lost 5 and we are awful
I think it’s a combination myself
We’re inconsistent and clearly have an issue playing teams post Europe when they have had a week to prep for us

Arsenal have most definitely had a harder start fixture wise than us.

A player I had no real faith in has taken the manager's words onboard and continues to grow and grow. I think he's rising to the challenges for sure.

How was Turkey mate?

Yeah was a great trip, only came back yesterday so was a City-break with the lads as well - Istanbul is some place.

Overall, as I think @Glenda's Legs mentioned as well, the palaver of getting to & from the stadium wasn't as bad as we had feared - had they served alcohol in the stadium it would have made the 2 hour wait for kick off a lot more tolerable though. Barely saw a Galatasary supporter outside of the match, so from a policing pov they got it bang on though that did take an element of excitement away from the trip.

It’s still very possible but I can’t see it to be honest. Think the inconsistency will continue and we’ll finish 6th - 10th. For me, 6th is still par and even 8th should give Ange another season.

I’d probably give him another season if he finished 10th but not sure Levy is as forgiving as me.

Ange gets top 4 and you’d have to say he’ll have done a great job. A pot is going to have to rely on us having good days exactly when we need them. It’s possible but I wouldn’t be putting money on it.

FWIW the Opta supercomputer roughly concurs with your projection, albeit a slightly more optimistic 5-9th place… considering how stretched our squad has been with the demands of Europa League this season, Munn is going to have his work cut out getting in enough quality players for us to not get embarrassed in Champions League should we somehow manage to finish In the top 4 (or 5) places.

Tough run coming up, if we can get through that and still have a closeable gap to the top 4/5 then yes we can.

But it will be tough to get those results in coming weeks.

This is the run that will make or break Ange with our fans
Incredibly hard games in the league flanked by 3 cup games from which we really need wins
I’m a positive guy but with so many away on international break that need recovery form injuries I’m not optimistic

Yeah, several disappointing performances and results, or even worse a properly poor run of results over the next 5-10 games will be really difficult to get back from I think.

If we lose to city (likely) and fall bottom half we will have fans burning effigies of Ange
There is no patience because the same view is held by many that we should do better but don’t want the pain of actually getting there
It’s like going on holiday somewhere that may be nice but refusing to get on the plane to get there
