Cann we make the top 4 or 5?

I really don’t are about qualifying for the Champions league, you only get there if you deserve to be there and the way we are at the moment we would get smashed every week. We need to focus on winning a trophy rather than hoping to make up the numbers in the champions league.

I’d be happy with a 12th place finish and a Europa league win.

But..we'd end up in the champions league and get smashed up anyway, no?

I think we can hold our win in the CL
It’s very different to EL and the turnaround is more favourable
The key is not carrying dead wright in the squad and filling their laces with players who have the right ability… availability
We can’t hold our own against Palace, Ipswich and Fulham so i have no idea how we will be able to hold our own against Europes best.

We're obviously building a stronger squad over time. If that squad will be ready for CL fotball this time next year remains to be seen, but I think it's somewhat likely at least.

CL would also give us more money to strengthen the squad further next season.

I know the Roma and Fulham performances and results were disappointing. But, undefeated run of three games?

Been said before, but had we turned 3 of those losses earlier in the season into draws we would be more or less where we want to be in the table.

Can we grind out some valuable points also when not at our best?

That Fulham draw looks very different if flanked by two league wins against City and Bournemouth than if the Bournemouth game is another disappointing one.

The results so far look like what we are. Largely a decent side, which is why we are so inconsistent in terms of results and performances. Some games will go out way and some won't. We don't make it easy because we are quite easy to play against imo.

If, buts and maybes....the fact is, since end of February we have played 26 matches and won 12, lost 11 and drawn 3.
That is mid-table form. And we can't use mass injuries as an excuse like we maybe could have last autumn.

Fact is we have defensively looked less and less organised as time has gone on, constantly giving up good chances in most games and it would be a struggle to get top 4 in that situation even if we had strikers who constantly outperformed their xG (like we used to with Kane and a younger Son).

Until we look far more organised at the back, we will continue to flatter to deceive. Given the transfer business in the summer, can we really expect much more?

The transfer business for the summer is about future proofing the team. It was needed because of the state the squad was in (queue a rant about miss managing the squad now), but I do think Ange has fudged us in the way he has chosen to play players this year
We also suffer more than most with paying a lot out for players who can’t stay fit but would be key to the squad
On out performing … and I know no one ever wants to hear it but we are marginally out performing our Xg for and significantly out performing our Xg against.

I think it’s the aged old issue of perception not meeting reality
The recent draws felt like defeats which again changes those views more

And injuries play a huge part. They seem to be a valid excuse for other clubs but not our own. And that’s our fan bases saying that

FUTURE proofing the team (and assuming all the 'punt's end up as Bales or Modrics) instead buying to compete NOW..still our favourite type of operation, eh...We can't then expect those who are ambitious for NOW to stay or even come if that's our constant approach..

Is it any different to the approach last season though?

Having more good/reliable first team options in a squad negates that...see last autumn's injuries, then see the summer transfer window

After this time, having to use xG to show progress is sort of straw-clutching. The eye test tells its own story and the actual point on the board also. You could argue we have reverted to the mean after the first 10 games last season

I think it’s the aged old issue of perception not meeting reality

How is the perception not meeting reality? We have played 13 games this season and i'm pretty sure you were adamant that it was best to judge Ange after at least 10 games...how do YOU judge things now that we've reached that milestone you set?

The recent draws felt like defeats which again changes those views more

The would for any team with our supposed ambitions and also would for any team that would be disappointed with our win/loss ratio over the last 26 games

And injuries play a huge part. They seem to be a valid excuse for other clubs but not our own. And that’s our fan bases saying that

Again, 26 games, 12 wins and 11 defeats says a lot more than xG stats etc. We wouldn't use xG to say how good/bad other teams are in comparison to the actual points earned over 26 games. Until we ACTUALLY gain the points people claim we should (which will more likely happen when we look better structured defensively) then all one can use to judge ourselves OVER A LONG SUSTAINED PERIOD OF TIME is points on the board

But in his whole time here we would be 6th
Thats reality
6th in wages (every one loves to say spend more but if we’re on par with the wages we pay then we are….)
Have you looked at other teams win loss ratios over the same time?

Fully appreciate that fans want to vent and argue
I genuinely think our fan base is full of people who go to the games to rage and vent anyway (always seems to be in the south stand at least)
But we’re back to the comment and question who is really up for the laundromat rebuild
The club seem to be from what little we know
Some fans are when it’s going well but aren’t when it’s not
This is the pain
It’s happening now

Yes, we are in a thread asking if we can make top 4 this season. I see we've come to the same conclusion

Yet we smashed City and Villa who are in the CL and doing very well in it, talk about cherry picking. Yes we have had some bad results, just like almost every club but we have obviously beaten some decent teams otherwise how is it we are still 3 points off top 4....
