Brennan Johnson

He still reminds me a lot of Son when we brought him.
My concern about Johnson is he might be a bit "soft". Does he have the mentality to improve and become Son quality? The raw ability is there to enhanced. But you can't reach fighting for the inch of space to get only something
We shall see
He delivers the goals which ultimately is his you win matches
We didn’t lose today because of him which is why I’m always amazed after defeat he is a focal point

He set up the best chance we had for sonny by beating his man.. was a good save
People thought odebert played well but he didn’t create anything

The problem for me with Odobert was that he was cutting across the box and trying to shoot or lay it off, which he did well enough at, when really he should have been getting to the byline and cutting it back or across. Like son did against Ipswich.
It will come I'm sure.

Johnsons performance was generally pathetic. No confidence or desire to beat his man and it started in the 1st minute when he was played in and just stuttered and stalled until the chance was gone. 2nd half he was pretty much hiding (something Son gets accused of). The one decent cross he supplied for Sonny doesn't redeem the rest of it. Someone needs to give him a good shake.

Odobert was a complete contrast. Wanted the ball and tried to create. He could be a good player for us.
I don’t think I remember Odobert creating anything?

Yep
Not worried about him but don’t think he had a good game for me
Don’t remember him beating his man to go wide

Hence why I said he 'tried to create'. It didn't come off for him but he has confidence and wants to be on the ball. Johnson doesn't seem to have that, which I find bizarre considering the goals he has scored this season.

I tend to prefer a player that actually creates something to one who merely ‘tries to’

See the photo above, that’s Johnson asking for the ball

Good for him, but I'd rather judge him over the 90mins than an isolated snapshot.

Fair enough. If you guys rate him that is your right.

I don't, I thinks he's poor. Maybe he could develop into a good player but I don't see it at the moment.

Each to their own.

The standards some of you have for our starting players are shockingly low.

Yep. Johnson was hiding last night IMO. Wasn’t showing for the ball, wasn’t making runs behind the defender. Yes he set up Son for his chance but he did sweet naff all beyond that but as you say, some are really happy with his overall play this season. And just to be clear I’m not not advocating that we sell him, but he is upgradable and he needs to improve his general play.

He’s almost the total opposite of Aaron Lennon who took his man on at every opportunity, worked hard defensively, tried to run in behind defenders, created chances but his end product wasn’t quite there in terms of goals. Johnson does none of that but gets goals.
