Black Lives Matter

I think our conversation is one of the most productive I have engaged in online. I see your point about history, and in a day and age where everything is zero to sixty there is definitely inflammatory potential.

But I believe the history is vital and must be raised again and again. The key is not to make it punitive more than educational. The other key is a society that is both individually and collectively able to admit when it is wrong. We're all wrong and guilty at times...even Scara was once!!!

I agree history is vital, learn from it, explore from it. I don’t say hide from it.

Just seen that loads of comedy shows have been pulled from free view because of race issues. Fawlty Towers and a couple of others.

Serious question, is all of this getting slightly out of hand?
I'd say so and it's distracting from the real-life issues. Mighty Boosh and League of Gentlemen too. Cue the apologies...

This is my problem with social media trends like this. A sensible and very worthwhile outcome would be for everyone to simply not be racist. But this is neither aimed at nor framed around that result. This is all about virtue signalling louder than the next person.

Spot on

I agree that this is a massive risk and problem. Massive Attack released a statement which for me was perfect; in short, hopefully everyone will still be onboard in a few a few weeks once the social media furore has died down (and it will).

Society pays what people are worth, no more and no less. Then socialists get involved and everyone get paid significantly more than their worth and everything goes to brick.

Absolute rubbish. Society pays as little as it can get away with. The quantification of "worth" is the issue. What is "worth" more to some is clearly not to others. "Worth" in the labour market has always been criminally undervalued/valued as cheaply as people can escape with.

Only reason I mention Twitter is that it's now the main news source for the half-witted millennials that make up most of the attendance at marches.

Perfectly happy to remove all religion - don't have any issue with that at all.

You're right about the news cycle though. Millennials are hardly known for their attention spans nor their committment to their causes (see voter turn outs for details).

It has been the fast-track to where we are.

"As little as it can get away with" is precisely the same as "As much as is required"

That's what a market rate is and that's what works perfectly until governments and unions get their filthy hands on it.

I was paid more as a labourer at 18 than I am in the Travel Industry now as a director, funny old life. I say worth is what you put on yourself not what others do, I earn less now but weigh up the pros and cons, I could do less work for more money, more work for more money, two jobs, it all depends on what I see as my worth.

Conversely not to make this all about race but there are some great writings about how the Blackman exploited the Blackman and still to this day does in Africa, can’t remember the title of one but something like “black icons who betrayed their race”
