AVB

he's managed three top clubs in Europe, he's won league titles with two of them

one of which involved an unbeaten league season and a european trophy

he took a financially astute middling English side to their highest ever points finish

sherwood on the other hand hasn't won any titles

hasn't managed to go more than 5 games unbeaten

has taken a billionaire owned middling English side to safety on the penultimate day of the season and the biggest thrashing in an fa cup final for half a century

it's a coin toss isn't it

Don't let facts get in the way sunshine..

You are letting facts get in the way of a good rant.

Top clubs yes, one of which plays in a 2nd rate league. Both clubs are the biggest in their respective countries with the biggest financial clout.

The points total thing is overrated. We finished where we have finished practically every season since 2006. Did he do well his first season? Of course, but it was about par, it wasn't anything special. Poch had less points than AVB and Sherwood achieved last season, but we finished higher in the league. I think all of us would take a lower points total next season if it got us into the top 4.

AVB managed 3 thrashings in a matter of weeks.

Once again, I am not claiming Sherwood is even a good manager.

Yep, you have to be a top manager relatively speaking to win a league title.

I see the wording has changed ever so slightly ;)

We will have to disgaree on this one. There are managers who have won titles in this country who I would describe as good managers, but certainly not "top managers."

Lol, is this a fancy way of you saying "I know the PL well but not the Russian or Portuguese leagues so they must be crud and uncompetetive"?;)

I'm happy for you to lay out some detail showing how our league is more competitive than Russia's (or even Portugal's for that matter)...
You know what I could do but what would be the point? I will just get sucked into this thread again. I accept AvB is an uber coach taking teams against all odds to titles in super competitive leagues. I'll just ignore he failed to do that in the PL with 2 of the biggest clubs or make any serious impression on the champs league. I will say this, nothing is impossible in football with plenty of crud coaches getting unbelievable jobs. Nevertheless I will be very surprised if Avb ends up a coach at one of the major European superpowers. That's me done with this thread.... For now.

we were broken by the time of those thrashings, AVB was already on the way out, he should be judged in his first season alone

the shambles was inevitable when we lost Bale and didn't trust AVB's judgement alone on replacements, in hindsight Levy (should have done everything he said imo) should have replaced him that summer, the trust wasn't there

I'll also add that the Russian league is far stronger than it gets credit for, as the head to head of PL and Russian teams over the last decade will attest

I could list plenty of "facts" about previous Spurs managers that you would shoot down in an instant it's hardly any different.

Speak for yourself son, I have gone from deluding myself and now you say I would shoot down facts from you over previous managers, your crystal ball either needs replacing or you should stop getting your knickers in a twist.

My point is that you can't be at the relative 'top of the pile' in any league to actually win a title. Sure, money helps but as we've seen money can only go so far sometimes.
Management of those resources you can buy is a skill in itself. It's why i can only give a limited appraisal to the likes of Wenger and Ancelotti.
So whilst many will belittle AVB's trophy haul to date (like you often seem to) there will be many who would walk in his shoes and take the jobs he has and not achieve what he has to date (like Sherwood imo)

Many coaches have failed in the PL and been successful elsewhere. In fact, if Klopp came to the PL and failed would that make him forever brick?
Not saying that AVB is a GHod or anything, but here are many brick coaches who have managed us in the past who are not fit to lace his shoes quite frankly

ironically Ghod was one of them

Ok here goes:

First Spurs manager to beat Arsenal in the league in 10 years.

First Spurs manager to beat Arsenal away in 17 years.

First Spurs manager to win at Anfield in the league for 17 years.

Led the club to their first and only CL appearance.

Beat the reigning European champions in the CL.

I'll let you guess who the manager is, it's one of your mates though.

I know who the manager is and kept away from mentioning his name before because I knew it would upset you.

This is the manager who has relegated three different clubs and did a runner ( with dodgy knees) to avoid his forth relegation. He is the manager who has been connected to three clubs nearly going out of business after he had managed them, he is the manager who has left his last club ( after doing a runner with dodgy knees) with the chances of facing a large fine.

I guess we are talking about the same guy, and I never once looked at a crystal ball

what does redknapp also being a good manager have to do with AVB and sherwood?

You forgot "First manager to actively try and sell a player publicly after the chairman backed HIM in saying publicly that he WOULD NOT be sold.."

;)

The post was in relation to a previous comment made about me shooting down previous acheivements.

ah ok, I'm still arguing your earlier point about AVB and sherwood being effectively the same

we really should call a truce on this, I'm never going to accept your suggestion that AVB is flawed, and I doubt you'll ever realise you are utterly wrong about him, is it worth us arguing on and on and on
