AVB

Sig flattered to deceive IMO.

Lennon didn't quite reach the heights he did under the previous regimes.

Dempsey did OK, not poor but not great either.

Bale certainly had to carry the team in the second half of the season.

I agree with that. My point is that none of those players did any better under subsequent managers, so AVB was getting about par out of them. Luckily he had the pragmatism/foresight to utilise Bale to the nth degree to keep us in the top 4 hunt, which i doubt any of our other recent managers would have had the ability to do given the squad at the time (minus Modric et al).

AVB is being linked with West Ham. Hope he won't even think about it. West Ham is a shyte and unstable club without any ambitions. I think AVB is better to stay with Zenit until a bigger club comes in for him.

AVB would have to be mad to come back to England. The press would be onto him again straight away, he would revert into his shell and it would all fall apart. His best bet is to get a job in Italy, his style of play would be suited to the league and if he achieved something it would help rebuild his reputation.

Agree with that. The press and the fans in Italy like their managers to think rather than shout, would be a good fit for him.

This country is still fighting against managers the average football fans considers more intelligent than them - unfortunately that rules out roughly 90% of all people!

AVB could have got away with anything if he had been successful. Wenger is a weird, anti-social, odd ball and the press hardly mention it.

I remember the tabloids making aspersions about Wenger' personal life back at the start of his reign but he confronted the pack on the steps at Highbury which got them to back down and winning the league + cup double a year later made the press rather more respectful I suppose.

Football: Wenger quick to deny rumours - Sport - The Independent

I think that kinda backs up the odd balls get away with it if they win stuff argument, also we didn't have 24 sports news or wide spread internet access back in the nineties, both have really upped the pressure.

Indeed. There might've been a bronze statue of Christian Gross holding a Tube ticket erected outside WHL had he done for Spurs what ARSEne did for the Goons.

I'm sure that AVB' time in England would have been viewed very differently had Chavski not fluked their way to a CL + FA Cup double after that pitiful 6th place finish in the league and had we picked up 2 more points the following season to pip ARSEnal to that CL spot.

Such a fine line between genius and insanity.

I think Wenger gets a lot of stick, even now.

"The Professor" is either complimentary or derogatory depending on form, and he's always been painted as weird.

Mourinho also used to get a lot of abuse but I know he invites a lot of that.

Exactly, for him to be even slightly tempted to return here it would have to be for a job at one of the biggest clubs, and even then i dont think he would take it at this stage since hes only been gone a year. Its completely laughable anybody would think he would even consider the West Ham job.

There's just no way that is going to happen. The best he will get in England is somewhere like Everton or Southampton.

Yes, at the moment obviously, but he wouldn't be coming back to England so soon anyway. If he ever did some back it would only be after he had had some more success in other leagues and restored his reputation. If he carries on the same as he is atm i think he could have a shot at the Real job in a few years, especially as i cant see Rafa lasting more than a few seasons there, who does anyway?
