AVB

Even though i love Klopp's passion and the way he gets his sides playing, i would keep Poch for atleast 1 more season. Our problem is we do not give anyone enough time, we give youth players a long time to develop so why not young managers?
Normally I would agree with you. Too early to get rid of now but I fudging love Klopp and the way Dortmund play. I'd be tempted if I was Levy.

It would make us a bit of a joke (if we aren't already) as it will mean another manager we've sacked. But all the same, he's a quality manager and a clear upgrade on Poch.

We really do not know how to let it go on this forum.

We should never have let go of Arry, he had us playing the football we all wanted to see and playing the formation everyone wants now.

Levy did the right thing getting rid of AVB and Sherwood, neither of whom had enough experience or were quite up to the job.

In hindsight, sacking Redknapp was a mistake, but at the time, I fully supported the decision to get rid of him as I believe Levy had good reasons to what with us blowing 3rd place.

tickle my balls with a feather, no wonder we are always in transition when we change managers so often.

Yeah I realised who you meant, just questioning AVB's record at Spurs with/without Bale.

Not sure how you can discredit a manager just because one player has been excellent. If so, how about Jol without Keane(2006)/Berbatov(2007), Redknapp without Defoe(2010)/Modric(2011)/Adebayor(2012), Sherwood without Adebayor(2014) and now Pochettino without Kane ? Or how about the past Spurs teams without Klinsmann(1995) and Sheringham(1993) ? I think just because one player has been the most influential, it doesn't mean the team would have done badly without him. We would have had other players in their place who would have done similiar roles.

Frankly, I thought Bale was more of an hindrance than help to the team under AVB in 2013. The other players simply relied too much on him for goals. I think without Bale, players like Defoe, Sigurdsson and Dempsey would have stepped up to get the goals. The only thing we would have missed is Bale's long range wonder goals !

While I agree with your sentiment, the drop off the following season when AVB lost Bale doesn't really do much to prove your specific point.

Bale was not the only one we sold that season. We also sold Dempsey, Caulker, Hudd, Parker and Gallas. They might not have been as influential as Bale but still it affected our balance in the team. Thought selling Dempsey and Caulker was a big mistake, especially Dempsey. We didn't have anyone who could score ugly goals such as tap-ins like Dempsey. Also, to spend 100m on 7 new and untested players and expect them to settle in quickly was really stupid. Levy should have given AVB until the end of the season to see if he can get the new players perform.

By all accounts AVB wanted to leave. Imo should never have been appointed after Chelsea debacle.Btw wasn't it Avb's decision to let those players go? The Hudd one in particular was strange seeing as there was no one else in the team at that point who could pass like him.

made sense in an AVB team as the plan was to play a high line and press, good player that Hudd is he didn't have the mobility for that system

Not hating on pouch, but if we have a chance for klopp we just absolutely must pull the trigger.

I get that football is all about opinions, but I don't see how anyone can possibly argue that he didn't fail there.

Just to stress I liked AVB, but if people look back and say that we shouldn't have taken that gamble at the time, the same can be applied to sacking Poch and hiring Klopp now

have to agree with that, so many fans use hindsight to slag of managers ( and players) but 99% of managerial appointments are a risk.

Well done to AVB for winning the Russian league title with Zenit St Petersburg ! Zenit drew 1-1 with FC Ufa which was enough to win them the league title. With 2 matches remaining, Zenit are 8 points above 2nd placed CSKA Moscow. This is Zenit's 4th Russian league title in history, all won in the last 8 years.

This is AVB's second league title after winning the Portuguese league title with Porto in 2011. His decision to move to Russia after his problems in England has proven to be a wise one now. Atleast he has proven he can win trophies if he is given the right players and enough time. Remember, Zenit and AVB narrowly lost the Russian league title last season. But AVB has managed to win it this time.
