AVB & Spurs Tactics and Formations discussion thread

I ask again what I did earlier in another thead - on what grounds has Sugurdsson earnt a starting spot, better yet a starting spot ahead of VdV?

Im happy for a more Lennon like replacement, in the interests of continuity - though I do like the option of changing things with someone like VDV.

Im not entirely sure how Sigurdssons introduction will play out.

IMO, right now the differences between him and VDV in the role are as follows
- VDV roamed. A lot (Robbie Keane like) meaning he was available for midfielders in deep positions
- VDV left Ade to it a lot when on his roaming exercises, which cost us at times in advanced areas
- VDVs roaming led to him running out of steam

- Sigurdsson will, I think, 'hang forward' more holding the AM position
- This means he wont be an easy/obvious ball for players in deep positions as regularly
- It should also mean he is in position to support attacking plays more

So I think Sigurdsson would cause opponents more problems as long as the team can find him in positions to do so. If they cant prepare for "Sigurdsson, what does he do?" threads a plenty!

This is also a lot of my thinking in putting VDV RWF, he can roam from there and hlp the team a lot more without it costing us as it did when he was central

Yeah sure I mean I've gotta admit I'm basing my entire opinion on Harry's lack of a plan b whereas AVB, we are led to believe, is extremely tactically astute... I suppose, as they say, the proof is in the eating! ;)

It was answered in another thread, the fact that he's managed to get onto the pitch for pre-season.

Vdv is a fitness doubt.

Indeed! Though I anticipate a bit of a rocky period while new ideas bed in

Chill out. If you want to discuss the lineup for the Saudi Sportswashing Machine match specifically, there's a thread for that.

This isn't the OMT last time I checked - the title siggest AVB's Tactics and Discussion, etc.

It being the OMT is irrelevant.

It would be a tactical choice to choose the player that is more likely to last the 90 minutes than the one who has been known to flag at about 70 minutes, who has also not been through much match practise.

Granted vdv is the better player, but getting 70 minutes out of Sig and then seeing where we were at would be my preferred tactical move, compared to starting vdv and him being tired.

Because if vdv is tired we have to sub him off, whereas Sig is less likely to be tired so the 'third' substitute could be used more tactically.

Read the second part of my post (edited later)

Fair enough.

Assuming VDV is fit i would start him every time. :p

My point was actually regarding the considerable/apparent 'over-rating' of a player who has never featured in a competitive game for us and has a reputation largerly built around a few decent games in a no-pressure newly promoted tiny team. I can appreciate the potential he holds which is great (investment) but still a long way to go before being considered in the same bracket as VdV, imv.

Problem is - this window was been so lean, forcing fans to clutch at the couple of players we've signed placing considerable faith in them.

So... If we talk about tactics and formations in the transfers thread, even if it is in direct relation to identifying what positions need strengthening, then the conversation gets moved into this thread, but if the conversation evolves into specifically talking about the formation and tactics and hopeful signings for our next match then the whole conversation will be moved to the OMT?! :-k 8-[

This is what you get for not wanting megathreads. Grr! ;)

So as to not take this thread o/t, shall I start a "Rob's replies to Jordinho Thread" thread... :-" ;)

That wouldn't work as a topic. How could you reply to me in a thread where I can't post?

Back to the , I mean tactics.
