Antonio Conte - officially NOT the coach of THFC

Bit annoyed it's been so quiet with regard to his contract extension, tbh. If he wants to stay, great, if he wants to go, great, but make a call, imo.

We need to line up the ducks for a roaring January to help fix some of the yawning holes in this side (with names like Emerson and Dier), and that is harder if we don't know if he sticks around or fudges off come June. Harder selling our project to players, too.

It doesn't help him or us. I rarely agree with Ali Gold, but I agree with that stance of his - Conte needs to commit or walk.

Do you think it is possible that there are some financial situations moving at some speed behind the scenes, and Conte wants to see where they land? Have you also considered that Conte himself is a bit of a crazy horse? I don't think it is as simple as you portray?

It's certainly possible - in fact, Conte being crazy isn't just possible, it's likely.

But that doesn't change that the longer this situation goes on, the more it becomes an issue for us and for him. That's what I'm annoyed with - Conte waiting around is his prerogative, but the longer he winds down his contract, the more that influences the directions we go in January, and the more it injects uncertainty into our forward planning.

And in turn, that probably impacts the kinds of players we can offer him in Jan, too - it doesn't help him either. Hence, I feel like whatever his reasons, the club needs to be putting this to him - we need clarity from you if we're going to go out and tell players to commit the next four/five years of their careers to us with the carrot of playing under Antonio Conte for a part of it. Otherwise, it'll be harder to get the players you want.

Let's say by some miracle we have a shot at landing Bastoni in Jan - he hasn't played much at Inter, it's possible. One understandable question he'll have for us is if Conte will stay beyond the remaining 7-odd months. What answers do we give him?

Likewise, we will no doubt try to get Kane to commit to a contract post-WC. His stance will probably depend at least in part on whether Conte stays. But not knowing if he will or he won't will probably put those negotiations off until there is clarity on that, which just means the clock continues to tick on the 18-odd months he has left until clarity emerges.

The seeming counterproductivity of it irks me.

But we can’t make him sign a longer contract, just the extension that we can trigger
I do agree it’s an issue with signings as it’s a key thing they would ask

I don’t think it’s an issue at all, as long as both sides are happy.

Pushing for a renewal, from either side, could just as easily cause a problem.

We can't make him sign it, no, but we can put it to him that not signing means it's harder to back him in the market, and that clarity would be helpful by the time January rolls around.

Actually, would be helpful nowv- can't imagine Paratici isn't already calling players and their agents atm.

We may well be doing that
Who knows

The entire Juve board have quit
Some of them would have been his fans I assume

On the contrary, this makes it likelier he goes back. Iirc, Conte and Agnelli hated each other, which is why as long as Agnelli was CEO he probably wouldn't have gone back. But with a new board I suspect they'll try their hand at tempting him back, and I'm guessing he'll say yes based on his humming and hawing with us.

Nope
He was rumoured to be going back because him and Agnelli had made up
And they have resigned because of accountancy fraud
They are fudged
You need to get listening to some better podcasts

They're in a financial mess. Nobody knows how bad, because they've been fiddling figures. Can't see conte wanting to go anywhere near.

He can't plead ignorant. He was dof when the transfers were made. I thought the cases were dropped earlier in they year but it seems not.
He can plead ignorant
It’s not a European football thing. It’s an Italian football thing
May mean he can’t work in Italy again anytime soon
