Just got to the Kane injury. I think I said at the time that he’d played 14 games straight and only missed about 5 mins in that time. It’s absurd when you think about. Not even taking him off when you’re 5-0 up at home to Burnley.

Ricky Villa's goal against City - it's got to be one of the most overrated goals in the history of football. One successful dribble, he kind of fumbles it past the second guy, and the goalie is brick as fudge, and it goes in. Hah.now, burn me at the stake.
A Emirates Marketing Project friend of mine hates that Ricky Villa's goal totally overshadows Steve McKenzie's, which in fairness was a great goal.
To the topic at hand - just watched episode 4.(And scrolled over all the posts since the one I've quoted here as don't want too many spoilers).
I think I enjoyed this episode more - perhaps I am more relaxed watching it now, rather than last week when there was a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty about what to expect. Good to see more of the behind the scenes, eg with the physios. It felt less of "the Mourinho show" and more about the club/team.
I can't say that I find Mourinho's team talks pre-game or half-time particularly inspiring, although granted I don't know what is the norm. I would have expected more reaction from/interaction with the players rather than them all just looking blankly at him. Appreciate however there's a lot of editing going on.
Looking forward to episodes 5 and 6.

Yeah, I agree, but we get seconds long snippets. I expect him to be way more tactical and detail oriented in his feedback to players, but I reckon they edit that out.
There was a similar documentary on a Norwegian ice hockey team a few years back, where the coach got criticised for giving brick team talks. His response was that they basically just put in the layman's stuff and edited out all the tactical bits. Makes sense, but yeah, it's interesting. How can you motivate someone by talking to them for a couple of minutes? It's insanely complex and incredibly hard to say. I guess ideally you just want players who motivate themselves more or less, and your job as a coach is more tactical than anything.

I think I recall something in Poch's book where he says (massively paraphrasing here) that he had to be very succinct when trying to impart information to the players as their attention span/ability to absorb was somewhat limited.
But yes, there's obviously a lot more that goes on tactically than what we are seeing.

I liked that snippet of Danny Rose saying something like "he just gives it back to Toby, he gives it to Paulo who knocks it long and we lost it, over and over again, it's pointless". I agree Danny! We have some very boring frustrating cycles of play where everyone just passes the buck and rolls it back to the keeper. Somebody needs to show some balls and DO something rather than waiting for the next man.
I just watched all 3, and it is crazy how many games hinge on one shot, one save, one penalty decision. It is incredible to see our goalscorers get injured... but we still had Dele Moura Bergwijn so at least we had some sort of attack in theory, it was painted as some impossible task. They are saying the pressure is on Moura to score, but Dele and Bergwijn are very good goalscorers if deployed correctly.
We just had (have) a paper thin squad so when we get 5 injuries our squad cannot cope.

He's just saying that it is a difficult window. To be fair to him, he did quite well last January.
Have watched episodes 4-6. You can see why Hugo is captain. I thought Kane might be captain one day permanently, having seen is pre match speeches I hope he isn’t! I know there’s more than one way to lead a team. But you’ve got to be able to deliver to a speech to a group and he hasn’t got that.

Don’t mind Rose attitude. He’s a football player who wants to play football. So he went on loan. We’d soon be moaning if he was a player the manager wanted rid of and he was happy to pick up wages for doing nothing.

Watched 4 and 5 yesterday. It’s probably not good tv to have in depth tactical instruction being covered, much better to have an old man saying fudge and coming up with an inspirational sound bite. Also perhaps there are some trade secrets even Mourinho likes to have. I’d have like to have seen more if the training drills and some of the more outlandish things the players pull off in that environment. Little snippets of personalities shown as it does on is nice to see.
Felt like they gave more insight into the day to day workings of the club, Levy came across as a lot more in control and knowledgeable than the first few episodes where he was Brent like in his dealings with Mourinho. He also made sure he was on camera saying to Eriksen he’s match any offer he’d receive and it was clear Eriksen’s desire to leave was non negotiable.
I’ve never had an issue with Rose on the pitch but the way he spoke to Mourinho was only ever going to end one way. There are ways to raise your point but ‘you know what the issue is’, ‘I’ll train on my own at home’ and ‘I’ll be speaking to Daniel’ just don’t leave any other option in response. Was interesting to see that Bournemouth wanted him and would have signed him if they’d stayed up.
I’m really enjoying the review of the season, there were a few times when it looked like we’d turn a corner only for another disaster to hinder us. I’d forgotten about how close we came to nicking the points against Watford. Hugo’s authority in the dressing room is clear but Kane has been far more articulate than I’ve seen him before and exudes a quiet confidence and authority without trying.
Obviously there are tactical insights we’d love to see but that’s not good tv, much better to have an old man saying fudge a lot and delivering inspirations sound bites. As noted above the desire to press has been stressed, could this be down to a lack of fitness and drive that will be resolved via a pre season and some fresh faces?
The next chunk of episodes are the ones I’m looking forward to in a masochistic way, once Sonny broke his arm we were always going to be in real trouble and I’d like to see if the strategy really changed in terms and will we see team morale and Mourinho’s authority challenged by the downturn in results and the silverware / top 4 prizes diminishing.
Hitchen feels like another Sherwood who has managed to climb the ranks by having Levy’s ear, hopefully that’s a bias on my part by his demeanour and the editing rather than the work he puts into the role.
I still wouldn’t believe Tom Hardy is narrating by the sound of his voice!
The ground and training ground look magnificent in every shot and although we all know there isn’t a happy ending there have been some nice sub plots, the Rise of Tanganga for example, that have made me hope there is a sequel. So this would be more Empire Strikes Back, laying the groundwork for the final victory of good over evil!! The more I see of it the more us winning a cup would have made this season seem too far fetched to not be fiction.

Not sure I am. It was fairly miserable stuff first time around. The FA Cup exit, the hammering in Leipzig and some very poor league performances. This really was a Frankenstein's monster of a season in many ways. As I watch it again, I'm reminded of how much Jose had to deal with which made the run we're about to witness in the next episodes inevitable. The one game I'm really interested in more than any other was actually on the other side of that horrible spell. The game v Sheff Utd felt a bit like a watershed moment. I wonder what happened up there in the dressing room and am looking forward to that although it'll probably be episode 9-10.
Watching it, I know it's fairly mundane stuff really for the most part but I'm f**king enthralled by it. I wouldn't even think of watching the City one or any other club but it's Spurs and I'm glued to it. It's dawned on me watching it, for all our faults, how much I love this f**king club and always will.

I see absolutely NOTHING wrong with what Rose did. He went straight to the point, instead of circling around the issue. There's nothing wrong with voicing your opinion. And he's bang on the point of the difficulty of performing when you only play every third week. It's not disrespectful in any way!
