Transfer thread

*Some clubs.

Interestingly the clubs that tend to win bigger comps are the ones who have done business already Chelsea, Liverpool, City And United). It's the clubs who don't really win who are still sitting on their hands. Might just be a coincidence but something I noticed.
Yet Liverpool failed in all their transfer attempts last summer and still won the big pot.

They already had a league challenging squad but yes the one player we seemingly know about they didn't get. As a rule though Liverpool always work very early in the windows and it's been a very fruitful pattern for them.

In the case of Chelsea and City they were driven to move early to get players in for the Club World Cup.

But there probably is a correlation between moving early and success. Also players want to join those clubs so they just say yes immediately rather than waiting for something better to come along later in the window. The only way to break that is to throw enough wages at them, something we’re not prepared to do

Zubimendi, Gordon and Yoro were the main targets that we are aware of in the press last summer but none came off.

Zubimendi had real strong links the other two were just press guff from what I saw. Tbh I don't think either were anything they needed so I'd be surprised if they were seriously interested.

Another way of looking at it is that two categories of clubs that have done business. Two clubs know what they're doing and what they need, and two have absolutely no clue, no direction and just buy anything with a pulse.

Bit surprised we haven't really been lknked with a cm. Especially as bissouma snd bentancur are nearing the end of their contracts.
That is an area i'd love to see a truly class player come in.

We haven't really been linked with anyone, come to think about it. All links are extremely tenuous. The only one with any credence is Kudus. For all we know something might drop out of the blue, which has happened quite a bit under Lange, so I'm not too fussed.

Full agreement. Let's just see what actually happens...

And Williams has confirmed me is staying … Barca are a mess that they can do a deal but not do a deal
They have recently just finished paying off those salaries to players that they asked to defer wages back a few years ago. Madness how a club like that got in such a mess but still tried to power on through like nothing has happened!

I think it’s shocking that a real sporting institution has ended up so fudged

We moaned that Poch was given players he didn’t want and now we are asking why we haven’t signed anyone before the new coach has even seen the squad he is working with. It baffles me.

We could well be in a position where we sign players - but Frank prefers the existing option. For example, preferring Johnson to Kudus.

However, in Kudus/Eze/Simon’s cases I think they are of sufficient quality, any coach will be pleased to have any of them. Kudus is the best fit as he bring something we don’t have rn, and his wages are probably manageable. Eze would be awesome IF Son departs. But with Tel, Oderbert, Moore, Solomon even were not short of bodies.
