Mathys Tel

Well he played there for France U21s in the tournament in the summer with Odobert out wide. He looked good there to me, of course it's a different level especially physically and especially playing up front against big grown men CBs in the PL.

But against his peers he looked good, and why I would recommend both patience and perseverance with him. He is 19, and I think he will breakout within the next couple of years.....
Conversely Odobert looked poor played on the right.

Could not agree more, sadly in todays game a lot of fans have neither the patience or sense to see that.

If his volley had have gone in and we nicked a point on Saturday a lot of people would be saying different things about him
I think he is super talented and will do well at us under Frank

100% agree. I find it really strange that people are so quick to judge this guy. I don't think he was hopeless at the tail end of last season. Sure, he had some not so great games, but so had the entire team ffs. It really gets me down when our "fans" behave this way towards our players, it really does, you can see it affects them (of course it does) - and people will just say "yeah, well, he's a professional footballer, he should handle it". It makes me feel bad on behalf of the supporters and on behalf of the club really wanting to say to him "we're not all like these idiots!". I feel ashamed. He's come to our great club with ambitions and hopes, and is sold this dream of playing in England for a great team at a great stadium, and is met with abuse. fudging hell, so depressing. They tarnish the rep and legacy of our club. We should be better. Every time someone does that it makes me love the club a little bit less - which pains me to say, but it's the truth. I don't want to be associated with those fudging idiots. The idea of this great player thinking "why did I join Spurs if they don't support me? what is it with this club?". Imagine actually supporting the guy and showing him some encouragement, he would be a fudging star in a matter of months. But I've gone over this so many times I'll shut about it for a while.

I've felt the same about Gil, by the way. The amount of ridicule he has gotten is just beyond belief. People should fudging behave. He is not a terrible footballer, and he's a human being - stop fudging making fun of him. Ok, so now I'm ranting again. Stop.

I really think Frank can help him develop his game, and when he does, he can become lethal. He just needs confidence, in my opinion.

I really think there’s a lot of firm conclusions being drawn on Tel that are coming way too soon.

He hasn’t set the world on fire yet. He’s also very young and played in a struggling team. I can see him doing very well under Frank. And I think Frank is waiting for the right moments to utilise him best. I don’t know this for sure, but I’d be extremely surprised if Tel decided to join us without a playing pathway. I think it’s just working itself out through the early weeks of this season and eventually he’ll be in a rhythm. Once the CL games start we’ll have a clearer idea.

I feel like people are talking about him as pure potential and not capable of being effective though. I don’t think it’s that. I think he is just going to show what he can do more when rotation becomes a factor.

When the fixtures really wrack up with CL, league cup, FA Cup then we will see a lot more of some of these players.

Please don't shut up about it. Shout it even louder. I completely agree with everything you say.

There's been a few people on here who have said absolutely disgraceful things and are still yet to walk them back. I haven't forgotten the brick they've come out with and I will always call out Spurs fans who think that is what supporting a team is.

Great post.

Both him and Odobert are young players who already have top league experience here and elsewhere. They haven't made much impact this season, but we're only 3-4 games in.

At this point last season (and later) people were saying that Gray and Bergvall were only players for the future. Both imo went on to have good seasons playing a fairly important part in us winning the EL (more getting us to the final stages and final, but still). They made an impact after needing some time.

Odobert has been here a season, but had most of his first season ruined by injuries. Tel has been here half a season. Both played for the most part in a rather dysfunctional side last season. They're both now young players working under a new manager.

Let's see what they can do as the season progresses. To me they both clearly have talent and we've seen players like that explode (in a good way) in the past. We have a manager with a real track record of making good talented attacking players really good and effective.

We've signed some starting level players, they're now squad players. Let's see how they can develop in that squad role.

Yeah, you're right. I won't. I honestly think this is a huge reason for me having just lost the spark a bit to this whole Spurs thing. I just dont feel it as much as before. One factor is obviously the big business aspect of it, but more than anything its the lack of cohesion or togetherness in the fan base. So many bitchers and moaners. We can barely string a song together in the stands. Hating on the players constantly. I fudging hate it. Whats the point of going to a game or calling yourself a supporter if you're just gonna be a dingdong and treat our players like brick. It takes the joy out of it quite a bit for me. Makes us seem inauthentic. I know its a big social media thing, it is much at fault. Anyway - if you've absolutely have got to hate, spare it for the red lot, imo.

Just imagine a world where even if a player was having a poor game or wasn't performing over time the support from the stands was mostly supportive and encouraging.

Not going to happen, and just to be clear not saying that people aren't allowed to criticise or voice their dissatisfaction. Of course there will be frustration and sometimes that will come out.

But I agree, seems to be a lot of that negativity.

Dean saunders talked about when he was at liverpool. If a player wasn't performing. Before a game the kop would chant his name to show their support. He said how much it boosted the players confidence.
