OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs PSG

He's not had a great start to his career, but he's a kid that took a chance to sign for us to begin with, and fronted up to take the blame for some of our atrocious showings last season when he had no right or reason to.

Yes he's probably missing some confidence at the moment, and sure, he needs to improve.

But the kid has a good head on his shoulders, and will improve with time. I wish we had a bit more perspective when it comes to Tel.

I think this game will prove to be a big moment for Tel. He wasn't good, he didn't play well, and he now has to learn from the moment, ask himself why, and challenge himself. Hopefully a learning experience.

a few thoughts about the team from this game

1. we are really good defensively now and can only get better. lots of discipline until the final minutes.
2. we are missing some real quality in midfield and attack - subs from both sides made the difference - we weakened while PSG strengthened
3. our young ones are not as good as PSG's
4. less than 40% possession - i hope the fans will back TF because of (2). Without strengthening midfield and attack, it might be like under conte again
5. fitness levels - seemed Ok generally and will probably get better as efficiency sets in with more practice
6. set pieces - can see the hard work paying off

... and on some players:

1. Danzo can be slow coming back
2. Spence is better than Porro in defence and attack
3. Tel is not ready and behind Grey and Bergvall
4. Sarr is very unpredictable - mostly good, popping up for interceptions unexpectedly, still needs help on decision making as he misses the best options a lot
5. It feels like vicario dives too early for penalties, he looks like he is getting more comfortable playing with his feet with better distribution

Good performance, disappointing to lose like that.

Good for the opening 70 minutes as others have said. Difficult to say how good. PSG didn't really press with real intensity for anything other than short bursts, gave the ball away a lot. We stopped them playing, but how much of that was them not playing that well is difficult to say.

Final 20/25 we mostly defended well. Goals like that will happen when you sit deep for that long and start running out of energy.

Imo we need to have a plan to either be able to keep and progress the ball ourselves in those game states or be a threat on the break. At the very least get enough possessions to win some free kicks and move from there. Not on Frank that, still very early days and as I've said repeatedly I think it's more about players and profiles we have.

Kudus looking really good again, great to see. Many others too having strong games as we know they're very capable of.

Or do we need to consider that sometimes coming into a game is hard for subs, getting the tempo of the match and getting the rythym?

We replaced our two key performers, Kudus and Palhinha with two teenagers, learning the game - that's not on the players, it's an indication of a lack of depth at the moment in the squad, which will come with experience for the youngsters and new additions.

In addition just not a game state that suited him. Him receiving long balls back to goal under heavy pressure just isn't going to be a good time.

Had we been able to keep hold of it and launch actual counter attacks he could have used his qualities.

Solanke, who I would assume would be more of the hold up player of the two looked understandably off it. So little useful happened.

I had help mate. I didn't realize how bad it had gotten until someone very close to me told me she didn't recognise me anymore. That's when it clicked.

After that I closed nearly every social media account I had, took time off work and spent time with her and the people I loved. They helped me realize what actually mattered.

One of the hardest things was actually not posting here, tbh! Whether or not you realized it, even when we were arguing, it felt like you were all my supports - there were people here who felt the same way I did after every defeat, and it was hard staying away each time we lost on the weekend. But ultimately, I badly needed to touch grass, as the kids say. And I'm glad I was able to do so. :)
Real happy to hear that mate. Well done, not easy to make those changes.

Always had a good impression of you even when we've disagreed on things.

I mostly stay of social media too. Here and some other niche places for particular interests where there's mostly respect and a good climate for conversations. To the extent I've contributed to this place not being a positive part of your life I'm sorry.

Hope all is well mate, despite our debates I have always respected you as a poster and your appearances always raise some good discussions. I know exactly where you are coming from and I have tried hard to cut down social media and having some success. Like you I could sense myself getting into a depression with alot of it and especially the levels of online hate I see everywhere. I have adapted a "would they......" attitude to posting to make myself less cynical about the world in that "would they say what they posted at work full of a room for of people" and often convince myself they wouldn't haha, sounds an odd take but makes me stop taking on every view because I honestly can't believe that Social Media is like life out there from some people............well I hope

Anyway mate, hope you are well........

This always comes down to squad depth, which we have always been moanng about from the dawn of time.

I'm still annoyed. Not at the players nor TF.

But time and time again the lack of desire of getting in people earlier enough and the people we get in. We do it to every manager. And if we think our plans are gonna change in the next windows, and TF time doesn't end the same way as all the others. I would love nothing more than him to be a Poch or Harry duration but with success.

So close for the new manager but for us.....its something we tend to experience over and over again.

Ball over the top for him to run onto keeps PSG a little stretched and a little more honest.
We played the long balls, this wouldn't have worked. Johnson up by himself against 3 or 4 defenders isn't going to work. He's not a dribbler so when they pressure him he would have lost the ball. It wouldn't have worked the way you're thinking.

Same as Tel essentially. If we can set them up they'll probably do well, but we can't so it doesn't happen and they end up struggling.

Almost happened with Tel when Romero cramped up at 2-2 to be fair. But it just doesn't hapoen enough and takes something extraordinary (typically from Romero or Porro).

Need players who do well under fairly heavy pressure with physical and technical qualities.

Odobert could perhaps have been a better option, but can understand bringing on Tel. But we need other players who can do well in those situations where they are under pressure.

Exactly. To play the ball over the top they need to setup as you say otherwise the player is just rubbing around aimlessly which is exactly what happened yesterday. Personnel in that respect wasn't the issue. We actually needed to be able to play out of the pressure somewhat.

A pass into the middle block, hold turn and move the team forward, either with another pass with the vital seconds you've one or a turn and dribbled run again buying the team time to move out of the low block. Odobert is the only who could possibly have done that and even with him we don't really know how well his control copes under extreme pressure.

Must admit I was pretty relaxed before the game but to lose in that manner was gutting! Thought we gave a good account of ourselves overall. We look toothless up front which we have been for 2 years. As soon as the ball got slipped through to Demeble I knew the ball was going in.
