For sure we should be willing to upgrade on anyone.

But what upgrades give us the most value for money?

And for a player with reportedly sky high wage demands questions of what that does to our overall wage structure come in too. What would the total cost be and if we instead spent that money on other positions or other players what would give us more of an upgrade.

I also think questions of motivation are fair when a player chooses money over playing at a higher level.

As I was saying I don't think we can or will go for Oshimen. I was just contesting the idea that we have is good enough as it stands. It's just a thought process I often see used amongst Tottenham fans and I refute it.

Osimhen is no more a left winger than Harry Kane. It is just ridiculous to suggest that he could be deployed as a left winger, especially as he is one of the best strikers in the world.

Unless people directly say they don't want us to upgrade our squad because we're good enough as it stands I think it's a safe assumption that everyone wants us to upgrade.

Agree, but I also feel like we're tweaking the squad at this point in our journey and already have an amazing team for the first game of the season.

It's not like seasons in the past where we have the big squad holes and are plugging them right up to transfer deadline day.

Saying that it's always easier for the departing, leaving or loaning player to be doing pre-season with the the club they'll be playing for in the coming season.

Amazing is a bit much imo. Decent is more a fair assesment I think along with better prepation and awareness of opposition strengths and weaknesses from the coach I expect to donate lot better than last year. However I think even at its best this squad lacks top quality, there just isn't anyone near the apex of their field in any position. We could improve the quality of the first 11 significantly and subsequently the chances of real progression with additions in most positions if we are honest.

I'm not one for settling, we should always be pressing forward and trying to improve otherwise you're actually going backwards as we saw in the latter half of Poch's reign.

We've three positions that need strengthening, DCM, RW and FB. None of our forward positions are amazing. Just compare the front 3 today to what it was 4-5 years ago. Plenty of potential in a lot of positions, but currently not amazing.

No, because Oshimen is by far the superior striker.
You would have to consider paying them up front together.

Anyway it is a moot point, we simply cannot afford the fee and his wages.

He is currently on about £256K a week, and quite understandably, he thinks if he gets a transfer he should have a big pay bump.

If I were he I would not worry about that. He will never play for Napoli again so he could always go on loan for a year and then leave on a free. He could then get a juicy signing on fee and a salary boost.

And now I am scratching my head wondering why I am discussing Oshimen in a Romero thread :oops:

We also have a £150-200m bench.

I'm not saying I don't want the sprinkling of stardust on this squad in the transfer market. Buying better players is always the agenda. However, I am definitely saying that the sum of the parts has to be better than we saw under Ange with the existing players. You can lay down any combinations of match day squads and elevens but the reality is that if we get things organised well under Frank we'll be in great shape. I'm also quite happy for the inevitable signature signings to earn the right to start games. Keep the culture going in the squad. Our squad is very good.

I bet I'm not the only one feeling optimistic and excited about the potential of this squad.

Nothing against your thoughts and on paper we should have the better team between ourselves and Burnley. I just don't agree our squad is amazing. That's such a strong word and one that doesn't fit this squad. Barca have an amazing squad, PSG have an amazing side. What we have is decent. Top 8 standard.

If you really feel it's amazing be prepared to be disappointed unless your amazing doesn't actually mean amazing. 😅
