The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

Martinez is right about Barkley. Be patient and he could be brilliant. Interesting he said 50 games. Would love to say the same about Lamela, Eriksen, Townsend and Chadli. Stick with them let's see what they're like after 50 appearances in the lillywhite. I would guess they would be completely different players

Sounds sensible. I wonder what this arsenal team would look like if they binned everyone who didn't make an immediate impact or hit a poor run of form.

Skrtel's own goal yesterday was almost identical to Paulinho's goal. Over-hit free kick from the right, well retrieved with stretching header off far post, knocked down to 6 yard area and prodded in with studs past bodies on line.

He doesn't score **** own goals. He must now been on carriages level of ogs which is saying something

Just got around to seeing MOTD2 having missed all the goals this weekend. Thoughts on those around us from the clips -

1. ARSENAL - defensively watertight but midfield off colour, maybe missed Flamini cleaning things up? And still not convinced on Giroud. But shows how good they are when they create more chances on an 'off day' than an impressive Everton.
2. LIVERPOOL - can't see the scousers dropping many pts at Anfield, Suarez is best in the league and it means they aren't yet missing Sturridge too much. They certainly looked better against West Ham than us.
3. CHELSEA - seemed to play well first half but WTF is Cech doing for Crouchie's goal? Uncharacteristically bad defending after that but not much they could do about the winner. Great to see them concede last-min, but once Mourinho sorts out their defence they will be very good.
4. Emirates Marketing Project - didn't look all that, still clearly struggling away so it's a case of if Pellegrini remedies that - if he does (soon) they are best-equipped to take the title. But with Saints' injuries City should have been winning there.
5. EVERTON - mightily impressive in possession, still lack cutting edge for me which might handicap them this season. But apart from that they are definite threats to us for any European place.
7. Saudi Sportswashing Machine - very good win, MOTD highlights were unfair on them, watched in pub prior to our game and even the Mackems agreed they were superior. I remember in 11/12 them doing well at the start but everyone said they would eventually drift, they didn't. Hopefully they do this time cos we could do without another rival for our top 4/5 hopes!
8. SOUTHAMPTON - great performance considering who they were without for the game, were unlucky to lose to Villa and did enough to beat City so unfortunate not to have 5 more pts on the board this week. I'm still wary of them.
9. MAN UTD - looked devoid of creativity and reliant on set-pieces and shaky at the back.. not an ideal recipe for a team with such high ambitions. I'll be surprised if they finish top 5 TBH.

Following up the Arsenal fan in Uganda that lost his house in a bet with a Man United supporter:

A Manchester United supporter in Kenya committed suicide on Saturday after his favorite team lost against Saudi Sportswashing Machine, according to a report from Africa.

Local police reported that the United supporter John Macharia jumped from the seventh floor of a building, and died instantly.

The police chief told local radio:

“I confirm that we received the news of a young man who could not stand to see his Manchester United team lose, and instead decided he can die for the sake of a team that is miles far away in Europe.

“We are treating this matter as a case and since this is not the first time we have received such cases, I wish to advice football fans in our country to rather support Harambee Stars than those teams in England who does not recognize them.”

Which CL match is worth watching tomorrow night? One with something riding on it preferably.

That would have to be Galatasaray - Juventus. Gala need a win to qualify at Juve's expense.

Bayern Munich - Emirates Marketing Project will probably get all the attention though.

Cheers. Gala-Juve it is then. I'll watch Bayern spank City in the highlights later.

Note that a pass doesnt always have to be to feet, put a ball into space for more damage .

Indeed, whip a cross into a dangerous area and either the defender puts it out for a corner or your striker gets on the end of it.

And look at how few defenders Swansea have. Was this goal from a swift counter-attack?

A Hull City attack had just broken down and Swansea were playing the ball out from the back however Williams misplaced a pass straight to Elmohamady about 50 yards out. Hernandez attempted a slide tackle but failed to take ball or man as you can just see at the start of the GIF.

Andy fking Townsend.

Says United are missing Carrick in front of back 4. Fair enough comment. Except his reasoning is up his hole: he says he's needed there because at the moment there's no service to Rooney and Kagawa from midfield because the midfield are passing backwards and laterally. So he's essentially saying if Carrick were in front of the back 4 he'd be supplying the front 2.

My take: Townsend has heard the chatter on forums and backpages in recent weeks about United missing Carrick but he completely lacks the analytical ability to draw the correct conclusion from that.

I'm turning over to Masterchef.
