The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

Must win???

Joking apart. A real test. Of late we have a great record against Liverpool at WHL. Could hinge on which Liverpool turn up, really hope its the one that went to Hull

More a question of which Spurs turn up more than a case of which Liverscum. Gonna be tense, need to beat those ****s. I hate them so so so very much

Gerrard has a hammy and might miss the trip. With Sturridge out too, we just need Suarez to injure himself in midweek training..

All-in-all a good weekend (and week) for us, along with Liverpool.

Next weekend 6 of the Top 8 play each other
Arsnal v City, Our match and Toon v Soton. More than likely will Chelsea and Everton smiling most next weekend, but if results go the right way, the Top 7 could open up a 6pts gap

Brazil: One fan reportedly dead and others seriously injured as league game descends into riots
8 Dec 2013 20:07

Some supporters were airlifted to safety as violence halted the crucial fixture between Atletico Paranaense and Vasco

One football fan has reportedly died and several others have been seriously injured in violent clashes at a Brazilian league game.

At least three fans were airlifted to hospital in "a serious condition"as the final-day clash between Atletico PR and Vasco da Gama was halted due to running battles in the stands.

The game, in which Atletico PR led 1-0 after just a few minutes, was being staged at a neutral ground in Joinville because of previous crowd incidents.

And after Atletico took the lead - a goal which could condemn Vasco to relegation - violent brawls broke out, leaving one fan dead according to a club director for the visitors, Antonio Peralta:

"We have one fan in a coma, and a supporter of the other side is dead. Or so I've heard.

"This is not a circus, it is recreation, a sporting event that has to bring joy and not death.

"At Vasco we do not accept that."

Atletico defender Luiz Alberto was one of a raft of players visibly shaken by the scenes, weeping on the sidelines as he told television crews:

"They were trying to escape the Atletico fans. We saw a young lad laying down, getting kicked, being hit by blocks of wood.

He is a human being. This needs to stop. We asked them to stop, and they did not listen to us "

Teammate Wendel added, "this is so sad... there are no words for it.

"There are people on the ground, I don't know what has happened to them"

Just saw this live on TV while the match was being shown live. There was a shocking incident where a fan was being kicked repeatedly on his head. Riot police all over the stadium. The match was abandoned. Not a good advert for Brazilian football, just when they are going to host the WC in 6 months.

Crazy!

Good game. Shows how tough this season will be.

Despite being put under a lot of pressure I thought Arsenal did quite well, didn't give away many chances whilst creating some really big chances themselves. Based on open play Everton bossed it, but in terms of clear chances Arsenal probably deserved to win it. Will be tough, but hopefully City can find some form and take them on.

Everton showing themselves as real top 4 contenders with that performance, still some things missing and I think real questions about their squad. Is the Baines injury the first real injury to their back 4 this season? Lukaku, Deulofeu and Barkley all very good young players, but still very young and unfinished. Can they go the distance? But overall Everton look like a really good team.

Great summary.

Martinez gave an interview this weekend, said he expected him to take until January to settle but he's come on a bit sooner than expected. He said he was looking out for the cultural adaptation, and what he means by that is not trying to buy free kicks and not expecting too much help from the ref like he would get in Spain. He said in the first few weeks if he got knocked off the ball he'd be looking for someone to blow up but over the last few weeks he jumps up to win the ball back straight away. Martinez said it's hard to undo a lifetime's worth of coaching but he's taken his time and done it now.

Arsenal really did not deserve to win that. And a point is good for us too. And while everyone is raving about Everton and worried that they will stop us getting top 4, we basically turned up to their ground and completely stopped them playing for a good hour. They turned up to Arsenal and imposed their style for a lot of the game. It doesn't mean much in isolation but I think we are a very good team too and people should remember that.

Thanks.

I am a big fan of excitement and this kid is exciting.

Everton showed just how good they can be. But it say a lot about what we done to them on their own patch. Pretty much mirrored what Everton did today in the first half. Dominate without really creating clear cut chances. I thought we completely bossed them in the first half at goodison. People right us off but you know what? We're not a bad side ourself

Martinez is right about Barkley. Be patient and he could be brilliant. Interesting he said 50 games. Would love to say the same about Lamela, Eriksen, Townsend and Chadli. Stick with them let's see what they're like after 50 appearances in the lillywhite. I would guess they would be completely different players
