The "Official" 2013/14 Other teams matches thread

Everton have somehow managed to integrate 3 new players into their first X1 with ease (Barry, Mccartney and Lukaku). They've also managed to get an untried kid from a foreign country to start producing almost immediately...well actually 2 players being that Oviedo looks good already too.

I'm not sure if you can say that Deulofeu started "producing almost immediately" considering he's still only started a single PL game at this stage in the season. Compared to us I think the quick integration for the other players at least partly illustrates the advantage of signing from the Premier League. Barry, McCartney and Lukaku all proven and used to the PL whilst all our 7 new players were from abroad.

Like Neville said, Dealafou has no fear, it's much easier when a player literally as greedy as him will just be happy to pick up the ball and run at players. Not too many players that talented are like that. Someone like Lamela for example hardly EVER demanded the ball when he first played for us, he'd call for it but not demand it, and when he got it either fell over the ball or just made the simple pass, the fear

we would have absolutely abused Lloris if he conceded that

Lloris wouldn't just have saved it, he would have held on to it and started a brilliant counter attack ;)

Not really **** goalkeeping imo. It's saveable, but it would be an immense saved had he gotten a hand to it from that distance and smashed in like that.

Yeah...Everton's signings are PL proven except for GD who is being eased in slowly. Not really comparable.

That said, it is impressive how quickly they started picking up results with Martinez's methods. Then again, we picked up a win at Old Trafford in game 4 under AVB, so it's not all bad under our own boss. :)

I think it would be classed as almost immediately as he's been in good form for a month now. Starts are irrelevant...he's producing.

It's easy for defenders to be integrated into a system. Jagielka and Distin have a solid understanding and they play the ball on the floor now under Martinez, Coleman and Baines have always been attacking full backs so that's no different. He knows McCarthy from Wigan who has played with that philosophy, he's signed Barry for that reason too in my view, Barry was very very underrated at City for doing that job, so it's smart buying from Martinez.

Lukaku is just a beast upfront who links it all up, and after the Prem experience he got last year is another smart buy from Martinez. Pienaar has always been tidy and Miralles comes from Belgium where the philosophy themselves is similar. You only have to look at Barkley to realise he made for this type of football, I remember seeing him as a 16 year old under Moyes and saw how damn good he was.

I think it was easier for Moyes to come in and put his stamp on a team like Everton then it would have been under a team like Stoke for example. Everton have always had solid, technical players who are smart and could play good football.

Following Everton' well deserved draw at the Emitrates, here's how the rest of the Top 7 have fared in the fixtures corresponding to our own thus far this season...

I turned match off after the Ozil goal. Just seemed so inevitable and I couldn't bear to watch. Nice surprise to find out what happened!

Has a team ever finished top 4 with a negative goal difference? :)

Edit: Just seen Everton did it in 05, damn.

On another note. Man Utd would need to win 22 and draw 1 of their remaining 23 games just to match their total from last season

Next Saturday ....

Emirates Marketing Project to beat **** ..
Chavs to beat Palace
Everton to beat Fulham

It's conceivable that we then go into our game against Liverpool on Sunday knowing that a Spurs win will put us in the title race , just five points off the leaders :-k

City lose, Chelsea lose by 5, no win for Everton, we beat Liverpool by double digits and we go second! ;)

Good to be 6th having not been consistent yet this season. Great platform for the second half.

Bizarre really, despite not hitting any heights to brag about we are
5pts clear of the champions, and only
1pt behind an Everton team who appear to be playing their best football for donkeys years
2pts behind the City goal-machine
3pts behind the club with unlimited money, and
3pts behind a Liverpool team containing a red-hot Suarez

And we have already played 3 of the top 5 away from home.

Would love to see us pick up 4pts from the next 2 games (obviously 6 would be fantastic). That really would set us up nicely for a couple of home games at Christmas
