Spurs v Stoke - Official match thread

were so bad there is so much wrong with this squad and its not changing for a lot of years

Comedy of errors:
First goal - Chadli back heads it Diouf and his poor cross is headed towards Adams

Second goal - another Lloris fudge up

What a joke is our defence!

Lamela trying so, so hard. Worth the £30m for that alone.

He's been good for a few games now. This game an last his decision making has been better and he hasn't been annoying giving it away all the time. One of our better players today and last week, not saying much.

I presume you're taking the tinkle though... Who cares what he cost now? It's done. Lamela was 30 million, mason was free. Townsend is better value, but Lamela is infinitely better. All that matters is how good they are, not the business side of value etc.

cant help but feel a lot of people here get enjoyment from seeing us lose though, just to prove some type of point.

Lamela looks like the only one trying. Players don't care.

We try quite hard going forward. We're decent attacking. Yes we could improve our movement, passing, drives down the wing etc. But generally in attack we're alright.

But defending, stopping teams from scoring, we are woeful! We're wide open, the midfield doesn't create a barrier and the defence is always shaky.

to play against us is uber simple. Just keep it tight at the back. That is all you need to do. Soak up our attacks, and you'll get plenty on the break or mistakes. Since Mourinho did this to us in the final, every team has the same setup. Works every time.

at least youd think Levy will decide to give Poch his OWN signings this summer as opposed to second rate ones who he probably didnt approve of. Roll on the summer.

The Tottenham I want to see under Poch may take 4 transfer windows at this rate. So much deadwood that needs shipping.

Do you really think we'd be saying Chadli was a good signing if he cost £30m? Of course we wouldn't, it's one of the biggest factors when it comes to evaluating players signed, or at least A factor.

He's better than Towsnend but not by much, hence Poch constantly chopping and changing the two of them. They've both been seriously below what's expected of them.

Right... Dembele on for Chadli. Eriksen left. Rose on for Chiriches. Vertoghen back into the middle. A couple of players that will show a little fight if nothing else.

That was not very good. No kind of organisation at the back. We defend as individuals, not as a unit, and that is unfortunately the case most of the time. It is so easy to cause us problems. Just ping the ball forward, chase after the ball and straight away you have a chance.

Going forward everything is pedestrian. When Stoke win the ball they get the ball forward quickly and try to catch us out. We take a few touches, pass the ball back and forth a few times, until Stoke are perfectly organised again. Then we try to force our way through centrally, which will happen about 1 time out of 100.

We don't look like a team in eiher end of the pitch. You have to wonder what we do in training.

Eriksen almost sums up our team. Talent is there, but ultimately doesn't really care.

I swear someone posted stats that he actually runs more miles per games than anyone bar Kane? Doesn't cut any ice with some though even it's fine for that to be Lamela's sole contribution.

I don't think fight is what we need. It's ability. We need someone to link from midfield to attack not fight there way there. We need to protect our back 4, running around lots isn't going to do it otherwise it would be working with who we have there. Chricihes isn't showing a lack of fight, but a lack of positioning, awareness and ability.

Anyone who thinks we've improved over Tim Sherwood's team from last season is sadly deluding themselves.

The stats don't lie, folks!

Sadly in a way, the Ardiles type managers never seem to succeed. This game is about being hard to beat. Football is attrition. At least until the first goal is scored. What is Poch's philosphie? As we're not pressing.

Can he get the team setup to stop the other team scoring so easily? A number of things need to change.

1. First and foremost when an attack breaks down. At the start of the season it was an emergency. Close down and snuff out the other team. Lamela and others run back, but not with urgency. We seem to be trying to drop back into a defensive position, but not putting pressure on the ball. We have to do both.

2,3,4 can come later...
