Politics, politics, politics

I must admit I underestimated the turnout.

I wonder if it was boosted by the 'social media' youth vote, kids engaged by the process for the first time.

I thought when all the options were sh!t.....more people would be happy sitting in watching Better Call Saul instead.

obviously its an echo chamber but i've seen a real push from influencers in getting the youth out

In spite of the right-wing press attacking him relentlessly, despite people like Mandleson working to undermine him "every single day" and his ilk driving a 'coup' against him, Corbyn faced them all down, campaigned brilliantly and took 40% of the vote. It seems increased youth turnout was real -- they took Canterbury ffs! Corbyn drove that. Anecdotally, I know people who weren't political and who never voted in a general election before voting for Corbyn's Labour, very specifically because of Corbyn.

The fact is, The Tories have under-estimated Corbyn, the same as the Blairites have continually. Look at how May folded under a bit of scrutiny -- how do you think she'd have coped with the sort of onslaught that Corbyn faced? He is a tough operator and has stayed a very decent man throughout.

It wasn't only the sh1te Tory manifesto that turned the tide -- Labour's manifesto was very popular and well thought out (I expect the usual arrogant bluster in response to that) and many people voted for Corbyn hoping for those policies.

Who here plumped for 'Hung Parliament' in the little GG poll then? :p
If you look at the timeline of vote share, Corbyn won a % or two. May's (Milibland's) manifesto did the rest.

Hopefully that is also the end of Lynton Crosby and his disgraceful election campaigns built on 100% negativity.
Crosby was apparently only in control for the last week or two - when they increased their vote share.

If he'd run the whole campaign then I suspect they'd have done significantly better.

:D

They didn't increase vote share in the only polls that were right i.e. Survation. Crosby is a busted flush, two negative campaigns in a row and two disastrous results.

Crosby wasn't in control of this campaign. He took over in the final weeks where all the polls had the Conservatives taking a lead.

Survation didn't get the vote share right at all from what I can see - they had it far closer than it was.

Except they were the only pollster whose polls showed a Hung Parliament...

I know your right-wing mindset can't comprehend it, but the youth vote and former Labour voting Ukipers voted for Corbyn's manifesto and this changed the face of the election.

Disagree all you want but it is staring you in the face.

May has royally fudged up. I don't understand how she can continue. It's like being Captain of the team and ask to be named Captain again, because not enough people wanted you as Captain last time.
Then even fewer want you as Captain. Why would you then still want to be Captain?

She is a fruitcake.

Who is Captain?

I do not understand why she attacked her core vote. Might be the correct policy but it is poor politics. It is the sort of thing you introduce halfway through a term in office.
she could do what she wanted - now was the time to do all the unpopular things they really wanted to do but you cannot do with a credible opposition. They really thought they were walking it regardless of what they put in. Most people thought this was the case as well, just go back a month in this thread.
