Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Biggest problem is the figures show that over 10m people in the population were not born in UK and in London 37% of population were not born in UK and 20% are not British, this worries people, they see housing problems, NHS in crisis, education struggling, wages low and meaningful job scarce. This always leads to extremist parties getting stronger.

statistically, most refugees settle in countries bordering their origin point, the UK take a tiny amount of refugees compared to countries in mainland Europe

if we don't have a country and a way of life that appeals to others, its already destroyed

there is a lot of flimflam information out there that the government are peddling, the number of refugees in the UK is minuscule

whatever the costs are now, they will be far higher in future if we don't behave correctly now, we need to get away from this idea that you can define somebody based on where they were born

immigrants have always been net contributors to the UK economy

It's not the numbers that are the particular concern for many/most. It's the unfairness of the able (physically fit economic migrant young men who can pay smugglers) getting in ahead of the needy (genuine refugees in UN camps).

We should absolutely take (and welcome) our quota from the UN. But no one who just arrives on the shore, skipping the queue just because they are financially and physically able, should be allowed to stay.

Why is that a problem?

We had a PM for three years born in another country, I don't remember much outcry about that.

Plenty of people who were born here now live in other countries, that's the world we live in now.

None of the issues we have are primarily down to immigration, they are down to greed in our own organisations or government.

Thats the first time I've had that concern to be honest.

It's a problem in that it creates an environment where extremist groups and parties grow, when times get tough people can react in a bad way and look for someone to blame,

True, but there's a trade off. If we want mass migration, we have to build a new Manchester somewhere every decade. We either have a quota that prevents population growth (so set at a level that balances the natural decline), or we accept that overpopulation will keep getting more and more, and we build everywhere to accommodate that.

And then they vote Tory. Insane right.

FYI Govt spending per pupil is at least 3% down since 2010. Now if we can only point to what major change occured in 2010...

Edit: This is the fundamental problem with our media being a right wing mouthpiece. Right now the right and their Tory buddies are pointing to immigration, when in reality the issues for education and NHS under their ownership should be the talking point

Immigration makes good sounding points for them, you could argue they don't really want to "solve" it because then they can't weaponise it either. If attention was turned on the NHS, schools etc they'd be in even bigger trouble. You can see the headlines for the next election around - Britains spends billions on hotels, Immigrants in £200 a night luxury bla bla and the voters will lap it up again. But in reality they've been in power for 12 years and have a massive majority at the moment to do whatever they like but Labour never seem to point this out.

Who will report it if they do?

They did today to be fair.

But immigration figures are broadly the same. Just more people coming from further away now, and less able to migrate back to places like Poland etc. As @Finnyisback outlined your typical Brexit voter prefers European migrants (statistically) and there is a beautiful irony that these voters who are anti-immigrant, will have more rest of the world migration to the UK now.

Have you done a survey of the typical brexit voter?

Why would there be more or different migration from the rest of the world? The rules haven't changed for them.

because there are less people coming from the EU.

like it or not this country needs a certain level of immigration or it will fall over. One reason for that is the aging population.

one way to do that is to point out facts like:

immigrants make a net contribution to the economy.
They make a net contribution to the NHS (staffing)

As i've already pointed out it's a gonads stat.

If 50 people are adding £100 to the economy each. But 100 people are taking £20 from the economy each. It doesn't mean the economy is better off with those 100 people taking the £20.

I'll say it again. I am not against immigration. It just needs to be controlled to what the country can cope with and benefit from.

what are you talking about???

even in your own example above there is a net contribution of £3000???
