Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

The real issue is that FOM for EU nationals has as been confused as immigration and asylum seekers.
I know quite a few brexit voters that don't seem to realise the difference.
Trying to explain to them brexit won't stop immigration (which they see as a bad thing) but will stop FOM, a good thing, was very frustrating, and ultimately pointless.
Loosing FOM of movement was never part of the Brexit referendum campaign if I recall. Not leaving the single market was often part of their shtick, but in the end that would have meant less soverignty and so was jetisoned after the vote was won.

You're right it wasn't, it and the difference between FOM, immigration and illegal immigration were all rolled up into one muddled mess.
Deliberately so imo.

Funny that the PMs answer is businesses need to pay people more money. Apart from there not always being available people, did anyone vote for Brexit thinking there would be higher prices in the shops? It certainly wasn’t what was promised.

People are available, if the salaries are there. Part of moving away from neo-liberalism is to stop the endless race to the bottom. If the pay and conditions of lorry driving become better than being a Happiness Engineer at Kidderminster District Council, that's where you get your staff from.

Immigration to supply labour is always a ponzi scheme. If you have a closed system though, you can rebalance and see the most valuable jobs rewarded. Reducing overall consumption and moving to localise supply chains also needs to be part of this rebalancing.

I always saw curbing population growth, and hence improving wages, as part of Brexit.

Btw I absolutely support immigration for social reasons (love, asylum and study), just not economic immigration (exploitation of the most vulnerable in both the exporting and importing countries by the most powerful).

Seems like people have forgotten the Tories been in power last 11 years.

Anyway, if poorer people want to vote them in, won't affect me nearly as much as it affects them.

That bolded bit made me spill my drink with laughter!! :D
I agree with your general points

Who is going to give up a job knowing they'll only have a few months of employment until March in the UK? Ill-thought-out governance of our nation.

It’s deliberate.

It’s deliberately badly designed.

So when no drivers come they can say “Look, see! We’ve been snubbed by the Europeans. We’re better off without them.”

Is that event this week the Conservative Party Conference? I thought it was the UKIP Conference, with some visiting speakers from Britain First.

It was very muddled, do not build on greenfield but build more homes etc etc

He would say one thing then contradict himself straight after.

So the UK is trying to renegotiate the Northern Ireland agreement. Just a couple of years after they agreed and signed the deal. The UK is threatening to renege on the agreement, which would tarnish our reputation and confidence in the UK to make trade agreements and respect international agreements they make.

Clearly, the idea that Brexit was "done" on x date can now be added to other Brexit myths that have been busted. Brexit rumbles on and on, with no positives I can see yet, and plenty of headache.

The Government - the same one that signed this agreement with the EU - is effectively saying it signed a crap agreement. What they are not able to admit yet is Brexit itself is a load of old crap!

Of these 3 options which is the truth?

1. This government are incompetent and signed a crap deal for the UK.

2. Brexit has inherent problems and no matter how hard they tried, they would have come up against all sorts of suboptimal arrangements, because Brexit itself was flawed.

3. Both of the above.

?

It's 1.

If the EU insist on the old, pointless agreement then there's a simple solution. Agree to follow the agreement to the letter, then set a budget for for the customs department covering that area of £1 per year.

We're required to set our laws out to meet the agreement, we're no longer required to follow the EU's opinions on what we do with our finances.

Unemployment falling, wages booming.

We are probably looking at a world recession coming though. Chinas evergrande issues that may cause it's housing bubble to burst. The energy crisis, with china and india suffering massive blackouts. The bottle necks of supply chains and massive hike in costs of shipping. Things might get bad.
I've been told by most suppliers that raw material shortages are likely to last at least another 6 months.

Smar problems in Europe before anyone tries to blame Brexit.

America is worst hit. The ports on the west coast are the busiest in the world. Bringing cargo from china.
With shutdown demand and supply dropped now it has spiked. There are cargo ships that have waited 2 weeks to get into port. As they can't be unloaded quick enough.

The energy price rise especially for coal and the energy price cap in china. Meant that instead of producing energy at a loss in china. The companies simply shut down the power stations. 2/3 of the country had a blackout. Without power the factories couldn't operate. We've also had massive flooding in china and india meaning many of their coal mines are now flooded.

Add on top of this evergrande. The chinese housing market is worth $62 trillion. A massive part of their economy. They are not the only one to have failed to pay their debt. This has also meant buyers are nervous, thinking house prices will fall so have put off buying. This has seen a drop of sales of 36%.

Biden has also basically kept trumps trade policy with china in order to limit their power.

All in all China is a bit rocky at the moment. Probably why they are making threats against Taiwan. The old argentine tactic with the falklands. Distract the population from the economy by giving them something else to think about.

With Boris‘s habit of overspending and wasting money,I wonder what the final costs of the vaccines and the subsequent track and trace has wasted?
He spends government money when it suits like water.
