***OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs. Saudi Sportswashing Machine***

We can't give away two goals and come back from it against good sides, especially when we are so, so, so limited on the ball.

We are carrying cloggers like Sanchez and Dier whenever we play them. We need the few 'leaders' on the field to step up in their stead, because they are without talent.

And today, our 'leader' Lloris let us down, and we couldn't recover. We toiled second half, but truth be told we never, ever threatened.

Sick of some of this spineless lot - I expect us to lose away given the mentality of these spineless losers, but losing at home like this is unexpected, and worse in many ways.

I think you have to look at how many of our players would be starters for any of the present top 8 sides and the answer is only Kane and Son. The rest are average at best. But we do it transfer window after transfer window, buy players that are not good enough for the teams they come from. See the likes of Moura Regullion etc. If they were that good these clubs would not be letting them go for 20-30 million.
We need to keep a manager for more than 3 seasons at least to give them the time to get rid of the dead wood and get the players in they actually want. For me Conte is not the man. I think he will walk eventually and we will be back to square one.
After Poch went we should have taken a chance with Howe or Potter but now they are taken who would you bring in if Conte walks?
Still we are just about a third of the way through the season and are 3rd in the table so things cant be that bad can they?

The basics just aren't there - I'm left wondering if we worked too much on fitness in the summer as opposed tactics/shape etc

Our passing is diabolical so far this season, that wasn't the case last season so what the hell has happened?
We've spent too much on fitness and tactics and absolutely fudge all on attacking and something we have a great word for in norwegian, samhandling, which means something like interactions that make each other better.
We seem to lack a lot in that departement!

I wouldn't say that. Kane is a starter, Kulu is a starter, Romero is a starter, Benta is probably a starter.

Sonny actually wouldn't be a starter - he has an atrocious first touch, is useless in the air and seems to have completely lost the finishing and decisiveness that made him a superb player. Without it, he's a bit of a muddle.

The problem is, every one of those are carrying someone else. Kane is carrying Son atm. Romero has to carry the mediocre Dier and hope Lloris doesn't fudge up behind him + Royal doesn't do something stupid next to him. Benta has to carry a two-man midfield, or in a three he has to babysit Bissouma, who seems to have lost everything that made him great at Brighton. Kulu carries that entire right side, Emerson ibcluded.

We cannot carry mediocrity and uselessness. In Dier, Davies, Sanchez, etc., we have players that play too often, and in Sonny and Lloris, we have rapidly declining players who cannot be benched for various reasons.

There was no evidence of any touch by Sanchez, they looked at it for long enough. The ball didn’t deviate direction, the spin of the ball didn’t change, The ball wasn’t touched, hence it wasn’t offside and it was a perfectly legitimate goal, so nothing got evened out.

Huh. You know, I'll go look at it again, but I am sure I saw a deflection - commentators were also convinced.

Our club lacks and always has lacked an element of accountability, thats what years of accepting having a player like Ginola, Bale and Kane and basking in their splender rather than winning things, I am certain of it and it breeds. This is not a dig at anyone but you only have to read this forum on the last couple of weeks and there is always an excuse for losing rather than calling it for what it is or demanding more from people and the players, its like how dare you expect more, we are Spurs don't you know that?

There was an element of it on the match thread where calling it what it is, is labelled fickle.

Howe is doing really well
His previous job at a bigger club than Bournemouth was a flop
Potter is class. Would have changed the culture too

Massive, massive issue
It’s a weakness that prevails in most organisations than front reach their potential. I literally saw it for 13 years when I was consulting
We have a HUGE problem with it in our club

I worked with the PL helping their match day coordination during Covid and It was so noticeable that at Spurs and I will say it now, we have everything, absolutely everything, the best of everything, but when I was ever at the training ground it felt like we were playing at it, players acting like it was a holiday camp rather than being professional, cliques of players, I know they exist but these were bad (Namely Lamela and Lo Celso, Ndombele and Aurier), a real sense of the bricks and mortar being big time but the mentality not so.

Not shocked one bit
I would have named them too

I completely agree with you and @Bedfordspurs . These players don' t hold themselves to any standard, and losing does not hurt them - they laugh it off and move on.

Yes, the rest of the club was also like this once. Our analytics team was lackadaisical post-Mitchell. Our scouting team was sometimes just 'I hate January' Hitchen and Pleaty, which was frankly abysmal and so far behind the timed it's difficult to know where to begin. We didn't employ a set piece coach, we didn't employ a psychologist, our physios were unaccountable.

But all those are changing - all of them. Paratici's work overhauling our scouting is clear - no more Hitchen and Pleat. Gianni Vio is here. We have a club psychologist now. Conte demands the maximum from the physios and *hates* losing.

But the losers on the field? We still have far too many who don't get what it means to compete, who revel in their mediocrity and their assured positions in the starting eleven.

Dier. Sanchez. Davies. Sessegnon. Royal. Sadly, Lloris and Sonny too, probably.

'Too many of them being too nice to each other' was something Sherwood said about us in 2014. It is still a problem in 2022.

Benching them and replacing them is the final piece - that extends to Lloris and Sonny, too. You play badly? You're out. Demand more from yourself to prevent that happening.

That and the fans - we need to be more demanding of this lot instead of writing off days like this, because they will not demand anything of themselves.

Also, it shows the mentality of this sorry lot that we lost Gian Piero Ventrone, and instead of fighting for him, embodying his warrior mentality, we immediately fold and look useless.

Is this honoring his memory? Like fudge it is. Shorn of accountability, these players, from Lloris downwards, hide, like the cowards that they are.

And it extends to Conte, you can tell how fans talk about him that rather than make him accountable at times they are more inclined to act like star struck teens in awe that he is our manager, I like the guy, I respect his record but he has to be asked questions as much as anyone, i'm not going to celevrate what he won at Chelsea, we should want more. Asking tough questions isn't ignoring his record and standing within the gane

Only issue i see there that these problems pre date and post date those players.
Go deeper than four players, at least two which didn't play much.

We beat Brighton and that was for him
That was fight and grit

It’s because conte believes he is bigger than the club
He exudes arrogance
But because he has won things, he had earned it
