***OMT - Tottenham Hotspur vs. Saudi Sportswashing Machine***

you are being very economical with yours ;)
yeah I had written a long reply and it dissapeared ..not like that..but ,just like that lol and just like our title hopes.
was saying Dubai is wasting his breath.how many years has he been post ing the same thing.
Our defence is a joke. How can we possibly compeat for trophies with that lot! I would have got rid of Dier 25 years
ago.nothing against Dier a good player but afraid he will not be taking us to the next level...but...he's still here. Royal ..crap,Sess.. crap, Sanchez well he tries but in Gods name this club will never win anything with the
players we constantly get. If I can see it and those of us on here who know their football can see it,why can,t the club see it? with all
the experts that are being paid for nothing and no trophies?

Only issue i see there that these problems pre date and post date those players.
Go deeper than four players, at least two which didn't play much.

That was just an example mate, there was lots of stuff that just reeked of playing at it rather than it being a naturally ingrained culture that we are a big club. That almost fear factor of players realising who they were playing for, like you might get going to a United or Liverpool where its a big club, big club culture you can almost smell it. Hard because we haven't naturally been that level but we need to find it if we are ever going to have a period of success.

We beat Brighton and that was for him
That was fight and grit

Yep, but that was it. Where was the fighting spirit after that? Absolutely nowhere.

The big thing about Ventrone was the way he kept standards high, pushed the players all the time. Many in this lot need that to keep them honest, and I think that includes Hugo and Sonny.

Without that, even the basic self-motivation to fight to prove someone like Ventrone right, to justify his faith in you, just..isn't there. It's infuriating to see.

Yep. 'We've arrived', without actually having arrived - the worst kind of preening cowards.

You see it all the time in interviews, too - usually someone like Dier mouthing off about how our mentality has changed and we're aiming for big things, and then he gets done like an utter macaron in the next game. It was Lenglet in the Guardian this week.

Zero accountability, self-reflection or actual desire to act like players at a real big club. Just a lot of pretending, for too many of this lot.

And look it can't be no coincidence and you can't keep making excuses for the fact we have failed to consistently win things having appeared in so many semi finals and finals without actually kicking on.

Even stretching back, we have been in the top level of football forever bar a season and our return is relatively poor in comparison, loads of self pitying moments in there and "how close" moments but if we seriously want to kick on then we need to stop getting star struck at big names and effectively giving them a free ride because they "have done bigger things at bigger clubs than ours"

It felt today after the second like we were actually putting in the effort, just lacked the quality
The subs again didn’t add anything and were odd (although I’d liked keeping royal at CB).
Conte has no in game management

That's the thing mate - *after the second goal*. After they were roundly booed off at half time for being useless, they perspired marginally harder in the second half before trudging off contented at having kept it to 1-2.

That is exactly the problem, imo. You think Ventrone would have been happier this lot only got their heads into the game at 2-0 down having been roundly booed?

Before we conceded we were the better side
They had that period and that was it
But they got 2 goals in that time

My youngest boy was crying at half time (He is always devastated when VAR goes against us!). I tried to cheer him up like a good dad and told him "we are still 3rd", "Just need to beat Sporting in mid week to get through the CL group" etc. Managed to convince him that Conte would be shouting at them at half time and we would probably make some changes and we will be better much better 2nd half. Then what happens.. We come out and absolutely nothing, no subs, no real change, Saudi Sportswashing Machine came out dominating possession!
Kane getting that goal and me telling him that they won the first half and we won the second just about settled him down!

GHod, I had to parent hard today haha

Haha its terrible ain't it? And what's worse is you do all that and the big kid in yourself wants to cry too

Sorry, badly worded reply.
What i meant was that if only it was them and in that moment, but it isn't and hasn't been.
We've been like this for years, been saying it for long enough, we attract settlers. Players happy to stick at the level we bought them at and not push on.

Yeh mate, honestly I would say the best way to describe it was holiday camp

Conceding the first goal stupidly having played relatively well up to that point is one thing. What’s unforgivable is going to pieces collectively and allowing them a second before half time. It’s mental weakness.

I completely agree with you and @Bedfordspurs . These players don' t hold themselves to any standard, and losing does not hurt them - they laugh it off and move on.

Yes, the rest of the club was also like this once. Our analytics team was lackadaisical post-Mitchell. Our scouting team was sometimes just 'I hate January' Hitchen and Pleaty, which was frankly abysmal and so far behind the timed it's difficult to know where to begin. We didn't employ a set piece coach, we didn't employ a psychologist, our physios were unaccountable.

But all those are changing - all of them. Paratici's work overhauling our scouting is clear - no more Hitchen and Pleat. Gianni Vio is here. We have a club psychologist now. Conte demands the maximum from the physios and *hates* losing.

But the losers on the field? We still have far too many who don't get what it means to compete, who revel in their mediocrity and their assured positions in the starting eleven.

Dier. Sanchez. Davies. Sessegnon. Royal. Sadly, Lloris and Sonny too, probably.

'Too many of them being too nice to each other' was something Sherwood said about us in 2014. It is still a problem in 2022.

Benching them and replacing them is the final piece - that extends to Lloris and Sonny, too. You play badly? You're out. Demand more from yourself to prevent that happening.

That and the fans - we need to be more demanding of this lot instead of writing off days like this, because they will not demand anything of themselves.

Agree with much of this and have said that players who don't perform should be dropped not mollycoddled. Those who don't want to fight for their place should be out the door. Too many are too weak willed. Let's give youth a chance too.
