what really gets me is people go on about player loyalty - Modric is an arse because we were not good enough for him - yet in the same breath have a go at players who are "not good enough for the team".

Outside the a few clubs in the league every other team would love to have him - guy is happyish playing 2nd fiddle - and he loves the club.

I wouldn't necessarily say that. Ade scored against Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Saudi Sportswashing Machine out of all the teams that finished in the top 8. Defoe scored against Emirates Marketing Project, Man Utd, Liverpool, Saudi Sportswashing Machine

We need a full break down over what teams and competitions, what our lineups were, at what time they were scored, home/away and so on.

The long and short of it is that when Defoe played, he made a vital goal contribution on average for every 87 minutes on the pitch and when Adebayor played he made a vital goal contribution on average for every 101 minutes he was on the pitch for.

Both sets of stats are very impressive.

Defoe got 6 of his in the Europa League and the FA Cup. Also where he got the majority of his assists.

Could be just a case if him getting a hefty bonus / signing on fee and a guarantee of a loyalty bonus as well if and / or when he is sold. In return we can demand a higher transfer fee for him when we do sell him

Its the long and short of anything though, is it?

Exhibit A - the age old Darren Bent argument. Statistically excellent, and yet no one batted an eyelid when he left because he just didnt compliment the team.

It's difficult to quantify exactly what some players offer because it's not all about assists and goals, but also their presence on the pitch, what they do off the ball.

Well you can't blame Defoe for not scoring in games where he wasn't selected to play in, can you?
