New England manager = Roy Hodgson

West Brom get to safety - FA can now approach them to talk about Roy. Doesn't mean a deal is done or anything but FA need to be shown that they are doing something.

When our season is over (i.e can no longer get 3rd or 4th) so might be the last game - then FA will ask if they can talk to Harry. FA are making sure that they can't be blamed for any club's season deteriorating by making an early approach - what if they had talked to WBA and they had gone into freefall and got relegated?

Pearce will announce a provisional squad on Thursday with the big caveat that the final selection won't necessarily come from that 'working group'.

FA have to be seen to talk to all possible candidates. This announcement changes nothing IMO.

Except expectations, which changes everything imo.

Couple thoughts:
1) wonder whether Harry feels like a bit of a tool now after constantly linking himself in the press to the job!
2) he's probably also a bit tinkled off now that he put those comments in teh press this morning re Modric leaving
3) probably means that our transfer policy will remain short sighted

Keegan did motivation and look how that turned out, Redknapp would be the same.

Keegan did Gareth Southgate in central midfield... along with lots more madness. Redknapp might be a bit daft but he isn't THAT daft. I think he'd do a decent job for England but I can see the case for Hodgson too.

If they appoint Hodgson, 'Arry's got no excuse for not doing his job properly. Hopefully, hopefully, this, combined with the Blackburn win, gets our season back on track.

The point is that the FA were embarrassed the last time they allowed the media to select a England manager, they will not make that mistake again ( imo)

WOnder whether Harry will resign? I mean, he'd probably already departed mentally and after what he's been paid at SPurs for the last few years he should be very comfortable financially. Am sure one of the TV companies would hire him as a pundit as well. Anyone reckon he'll try to stir things up and negotiate a departure with a pay-off rather than resign?

From our perspective, he'll not a long-term solution and therefore our transfer policy will continue to be short-term

If there is a reason why Redknapp won't get the job, it's the same reason why Clough was never offered the job and why Hoddle was sacked.

It was over a decade ago with very different people involved. I don't think the media have much to do with anything here.

Why? Most Manager's don't last 3 years whether they are 33 or 65.

I don't think Keegan was ever a motivational specialist. He in charge of a Saudi Sportswashing Machine side that at the time had a lot of money to burn. And he spent it furiously.

In fairness to him, he also bought well on the cheap on several occasions. Rob Lee and Andy Cole were signed in the 1st division, from other clubs outside the top flight and cost next to nothing. Yet became key players for several years. All the while we were spunking the same kind of money on Dozzell, Cundy etc.

Harry will be massively tinkled off but it serves him right. He's been speaking and acting as if he'd been appointed for a couple of months now.

I'm not one for conspiracies but this has all worked out amazingly well for Arsena. Firstly after Harry being linked they take full advantage of our resulting slump in form to take 3rd, now as they look to tie it up in the remaining 2 matches they face a soon to be managerless WBA. A potentially tough match with Hodgeson in charge and a CL/3rd place decider.
