General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

The Stadium does not bridge the gap anymore, Champions League and commercialism of these clubs in terms of sponsorship due to there constant qualifying for the champions league is so massive, they can still outspend us unfortunately, what the stadium will do is widen the gap between us and the rest of the pack but hopefully one of these CL clubs will have a bad year.

Unfortunatley.. what the stadium will do is widen the gap between us and the rest of the pack but hopefully one of these CL clubs will have a bad year.

When you get in to the 200m+ turnover bracket i think it takes a lot more to pull away from those around you than what the CL TV money offers - Good managment over a number of years can bridge that gap imv and it's more about how you spend your money than how much you soend (within the micro league of those rich clubs)

It may not ( and I am not sure it will not) but what it will do is enable us to pay better/bigger wages and not break the bank if we do so.

Yes.. what the stadium will do is that it will ramp up the pressure more on Chelsea and City as falling out of the Champions League could be disastrous for them, hence why this Abramovich rush for getting the stadium done.

There is no way Spurs should bring players in and start paying them 120k, if we did that they would be a line of players demanding parity. Once the stadium is up and running with the added income is the time we should be able to compete with the financial doped clubs.

One of the reasons we are so well positioned as a club is that Levy ( thank GHod) has not thrown that type of money around willy nilly.

Last season we had a group of players sitting on the bench earning more than those on the pitch.
If we stopped buying a series of similar players no better than what we've got and concentrate on bringing in real young talents, we can afford to pay top players decent money. Our wage bill is 100m. We should be able to pay 5 or 6 of our top players over 100k out of that.
No top player is going to stay at the club when they can get 3 times as much at another club.

And as I said before once you start paying two or three players over 100k you will have a line of players demanding the same, its as simple as that.

How are other clubs able to pay some of their first teamers 250k and others below 100k?
If the players want big wages they need to earn it on the pitch.

All those other clubs that you are talking about have far more resources then we do, if you really believe we can do the same as them then you need a reality check. Once we have the extra income from the new ground we will be in a position to do that until then we will not.

From what I kind find searching around it looks like Pedro is on 60k at Barcelona.
I'd be happy to double that for him. Pay the 15-20m fee His contract is up next summer.
Sell Townsend and Lamela and it would be all paid for and more.
Right hand side problem solved by a real quality experienced player.
Remember that the wages of players at clubs on the continent are often quoted as their net figure as opposed to the gross figure that is generally quoted in the UK.

Although southern europeans countries don't tend to pay much tax, so the net and gross figures for them aren't necessarily that far apart.

I remember a story about gullitt when he went to Chelsea, he thought the wage he agreed was a net figure not gross and threw a fit when he realised, I believe master Bates caved in and made up the difference. I wonder why Chelsea were hours away from bankruptcy?!

Pointless unless we're desperate; many similar traits to Kane (and those imo are not as good or with lower ceiling).

Plus, where's the pace??

Anyway that Twitter account just probably read the 'ITK round-up' from what Reggie Mentalist posted this morning and regurgitated it

Would that not be a plus? we can set up the team to play the same way for either of them ..

To me, two similar +one change option would be ideal. Change option should have pace.

The trick with Austin is really based on price, a proven PL option, similar style to our #1, might be more likely to willing to accept being #2 (vs. any other expensive striker we bring in)
