General Transfer Rumour Discussion Thread

If you look at some of the transfer business so far this window, you could almost make a really nice premier league team with the same money we spent on the fab 7.

Cech
Clyne
Toby
N'zonzi
Cabaye
Clasie

Erm I had a few more in my head but can't think now.

He is a 15-20 million player - inconsistent, but he won't have to settle in and get used to the league.

I agree he would be a back up, we won't change our style/formation

There is a risk that "inconsistent, but he won't have to settle in" is starting to be worth a lot more than £15m - £20m.

Liverpool in particular seem happy to spend loads extra for PL players. Personally glad we're not going down this route.....partly as we can't afford it, but also find it more exciting seeing the likes of Modric, Berbatov, Bale (and Kane) come through.

Berahino has tons of potential but it's still a risk considering he'd cost around 20m. Llorente at around £10m is worth a punt, he's a handful although not exactly mobile. It would be interesting to see how we'd adapt our play to incorporate him, perhaps going more direct as a plan B.

I think that he only has a year left on his contract and so should cost less than that

Would anyone take Turan on loan until January?

Apparently due to Barca's transfer ban, they would allow him to go out on loan for 6 months but only to a team that are not in the champions league.

Surely we would be one of the favourites?

Yes. I would love this. And we can take Pedro off their hands too.

Would be amazing business

That would be a great Levy deal, a good player on loan rather than splashing out £20m on someone.

Can anyone be ar.sed to think/look up Liverpool's revenue from games, commercials etc and subtract their wages... then do the same for Spurs... and see if they can afford to spend £50m more than us each window?

Barcelona president says Arda Turan could be sent out on loan

Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu says the club's new signing Arda Turan could be made available on a short-term loan deal.

The former Atletico Madrid star is unable to play for Barcelona until January 2016 due to the transfer ban imposed on the reigning European champions by FIFA.

And Bartomeu admits the Turkey international will only be allowed to leave for a club that is not competing in the Champions League and only if head coach Luis Enrique gives his approval.

would love him.
A would he really put the effort in though , really go the extra yard !!? Def no for me .. Different situ to any other loan ..he knows he will play at barca n is wanted .. With most loaned players they get loaned cos they can't get game and know they not really wanted so they have no choice to play for a move .. I'm sure he wud be professional but I know myself I would not over work myself if i knew in 4 months I'm playing for big club in Spain

Regardless of his motivation, we are not in a position to turn our noses up at Turan.

He may not properly fit the bill for the speedy technical player that we really need, but he is a cut above anyone else we can sign.

Acquiring him for 6 months also means we can afford to sign someone a little more raw (and therefore also cheaper), giving them until January to bed in.

Turan can then vacate a spot in the first team, leaving this new signing to battle it out with Lamela and Chadli (maybe Pritchard too) for the remaining 2 wide midfield roles.

It also has Levy written all over it.

If they are willing to let him go (more than likely), the only way I can see us not getting him is if Levy refuses to pay his full wage packet and Liverpool oblige. But the very fact that this course of action would strengthen our rivals would, IMO, be enough for Levy to stump up 6 months' wages. He is not an idiot.

I know Turan can't play for them yet but I'm still confused how they can sign him at all. Transfer ban seems fairly unambiguous to me.

Anyone else very worried that Benzema might end up at Arsenal? When Zlatan came on the market last week it had me a little concerned, but I think Benzema would offer far more to their team than even Zlatz.

If Benzema wants to leave, Arsenal would be a clear first choice IMO, unless PSG can throw silly money at him. Even then, with Benzema Arsenal would legitimately become title contenders, and that must be more of a draw than cakewalking the French title or sitting on the bench at Chelsea or City.

I suppose United could always come in for him... But surely they can only spend so much without flaunting FFP? And with all the upheaval there, are they really the better option?

I assume its somewhat like a pre-contract. Perhaps he is effectively a free agent until his contract with Barca comes into effect, but will be given the 'courtesy' of training with them until that point (kind of how we had Beckham and Keane training with us even when they didn't played for us), unless they can sort him out an acceptable 'loan'.
