General Transfer Discussion Thread

so far so good, +LB, +GK, -CM ... very systematic, very logical, very much gaping holes that needed plugging.

Agreed! If we can add Schneiderlin for example we would be on course to a great summer window.

Also, both players signed so far with PL experience, also very smart I think.

2 in, 1 out, only one change to 1st team, good so far.

My next priority would be a LM/LW option (preferably one with pace), that way we get the option of Eriksen/Lamela in center

Going by the logic the next things to do would be to:

1) Swap one of our 3 RWFs (Lennon or Townsend) for a LWF (Depay/Kono/Griezmann)

2) Lose all our over 21s who won't make the 25 man cut (BAE, Khumalo, Obika, Mason, maybe Rose, maybe Falque and Carroll (loan).

That would balance everything up nicely.

The final moves then would be whether we could get fairly like-for-like upgrades on any of Kaboul, Dawson and Dembele (Schneiderlin).

The thing is, Poch hasn't worked with or even met some our World Cup players. Unless they are joining up with the rest of the team now? They will need to learn his tactics, he will need to see them in action, and then make a decision on his team.

It's not like we have a settled team that Poch is tweaking. Last season and now, no one knows who our best team is made up of. Poch may have ideas, but its still day one.

It's a few odd positions, a lot of the team picks itself.

GK = Lloris, FB's = Walker/Davies, CB's = Kaboul/Vert. Midfield = Capoue/Sandro, Eriksen, Lamela, Lennon/Townsend, Dembele/Paulinho, FWs = Soldado/Ade/Kane

With Sandro & Ade ill, Paulinho/Dembele likely needing more rest, not so hard to pick the first team now for West Ham

Why would Dembele need more rest? He hardly played in the World Cup.

It's not really about the games - his fitness was still kept at a peak during that time. That's not good - conditioning is all about tempering as well as peaking. Everyone else took 4 weeks of complete rest and are now building their fitness back up.

Also, with his degenerative hip condition, he needs as much rest as he can get if we want him to make a meaningful contribution next season.

Really how bad is that hip condition?
