I think Eriksen feels more comfortable with a more physical player like Dembele playing rather than Carroll, it allows him to be a little freer with his play.

Eriksen holds talks with Pochettino over lack of starts in No10 role
by tom collomosse
Christian Eriksen is growing increasingly mystified at a lack of opportunities for
Tottenham in what he believes is his best position.
Eriksen started in the No10 role — just behind lone forward Harry Kane in the 4-2-3-1 system — in Wednesday’s 1-0 home defeat by Leicester in the Premier League but he has usually been asked to operate from the left flank by Mauricio Pochettino.
Standard Sport understands Eriksen has discussed the matter with the head coach and while he will accept whatever instructions he is given, the 23-year-old Denmark playmaker feels he would be able to offer more if he plays centrally — as he does for his country and as he often did for Ajax before moving to England.
Eriksen was given the job for the first two games of the season, against Manchester United and Stoke, before a knee injury kept him out of the starting XI until the home defeat by Arsenal in the Capital One Cup on September 23. Eriksen started as a No10 in that game but he has rarely played there since.
This season, Pochettino has normally used either Dele Alli or Mousa Dembele just behind Kane. Ryan Mason also played there in the early weeks of the season, as did Nacer Chadli and Heung-min Son but Dembele or Alli has been preferred when fit. Even Josh Onomah, who has yet to make a Premier League start, was chosen ahead of Eriksen in that spot for the 2-2 draw against Leicester in the FA Cup last Sunday.
Eriksen was signed by Tottenham in the summer of 2013 for £11 million, largely on the strength of his displays in the No10 spot for Ajax. Andre Villas-Boas, the Spurs head coach at the time, called Eriksen “a pure No10” but under his successors, Tim Sherwood and Pochettino, Eriksen has typically played on the flank. Pochettino demands speed and athleticism from his No10, regardless of how creative he may be, and Eriksen played well in that position for much of last term.
Eriksen is out of contract in the summer of 2018 and has attracted interest from Juventus and Paris St Germain, whose manager, Laurent Blanc, has spoken of his admiration for the player. But Pochettino insists Eriksen remains content at White Hart Lane, saying: “He has said he is happy and that he wants to stay. He is young and he knows he is important for us. He has a future with us.”
