Andre Villas-Boas - Head Coach

Several of our players are friends with members of the Chelsea squad, so I am sure that they would have been talking to the Chelsea players last season and would have know what was happening. I'm sure that our players would have talked about it at the time and I'm sure that our players would have discussed what they have heard about AVB before the first day of training. I think that it is impossible to say whether any negative preconceptions that they may or may not have about him will have any impact from that photo or a couple of tweets. Only time will tell what impact it will have, if any.

The players are clearly giving him a shot though, I'm not saying this means that AVB will be a definite success (though I always wanted him!) but simply that I don't think it can be argued that our players are giving him a fair chance. I think it's fair to say they probably don't give a toss what happened at Chelsea, because if they did the reaction wouldn't be positive. Our players could talk to Chelsea players sure...but our players could also talk to our players if you see what I mean, infact I'm sure they have. So if some are unsure about AVB, because of what happened at Chelsea, that would have quickly got round to the rest of the players.

My post was just in response to people saying AVB wouldn't be good because the players wouldn't give him a chance because they would speak to their Chelsea mates. Plenty of people refuted it, and said it probably wouldn't matter. It seems like it isn't the case and they are giving him a shot.

Today's footballers are more concerned about Playstation, basketball and shagging braindead tarts than talking about football anyway.

Just spoke to a current first XI player (will remain nameless) "AVB training is different class. Very inspiring"

New gaffers quality knows what he's doing and speaks to everyone.. Everybody has a chance to impress

You can tell that from a few pics and just one day of training?

Day 1 of a new regime, of course the playing staff will "play nice"

Its in about a months time you will see if they are actually buying into his methods/vision.

Once they have had a few weeks of double sessions etc we will see how much of a chance they have really given him

Unbelievable comments - I'm sure the ones who never wanted AVB will be pedalling this flimflam story born on an internet forum with zero factual proof to the very end and use it to beat him down into submission

I've got a few Pork'n'Cheese mates and they all say that their style of football is all about having comfort with the ball, such that training without the ball is kept to a minimum. Even a lot of endurance work will be done with a ball at their feet.

or maybe they are focusing on what he is saying

Agreed concentrating on a bit more than "run arahnd a bit etc " And taking advice etc off Chav players whosvcaptain is in hot water yet again . Say no more ... Rise to the challenge and work like Dave mackay

Yes, plus the generally positive reaction from a variety of different players. Hardly mutinous.

Well I've worked with bosses I couldn't stand but I got on with the job with a smile on my face. Not saying the players can't stand AVB, but I would wait until at least a quarter of a season before passing judgement. Also no matter how hated a Manager is, everyone is happy if the team is winning. It's only when things start going wrong that peoples true feelings come to the fore.

What if none of this actually happened?

If none of that happened my assumptions are wrong but I would think that it would rather unusual if friends did not discuss what is going on at work particularly when they work in the same business and there are rumours of unrest.

Well then we are talking about different things. I have no doubt some Spurs players spoke to Chelsea players and said 'bloody hell Lamps, what went on there?' but my original post earlier this morning was basically refuting the idea that the players wouldn't give AVB a chance based on what those Chelsea players said. I refuted it when AVB was only being linked, and I'm still refuting just that. It was said by people that because of what happened at Chelsea, the players wouldn't give AVB a chance. They wouldn't give him any respect and he'd never be able to get off the ground. When young players like Dean Parrett and even senior players like Assou-Ekotto both say things along the lines of 'The new gaffer is quality, knows exactly what he is doing, talks to everyone, everyone has a chance to prove themselves' I think it's a little more than simply begrudgingly getting on with the job with a smile on your face.

If in 3 months time there are rumours of unrest because AVB has turned into an egomanical tosser, then that's the different thing. It won't be because of what Chelsea players said, it will be because of how he treated Spurs players. But right now, it looks like they are giving him a chance and couldn't care less what happened at Chelsea.

Now...what happened to our Bale as a right wing forward discussion?

#thfc AVB's doing a press conference tomorrow afternoon at the new training ground in Enfield. Good idea, underlining image of a new era.

There certainly looks like a lot of the players are going to rebel against AVB, much like the press have said they would.

The players were always going to give him a chance, because the players don't have a choice!

Who is that aimed at?

I have no doubt the players would have spoken to Chelsea players about him and asked their opinion, I'm also sure most of them wouldn't care less or would still keep an open mind regardless.

I've had bosses come in I've heard bad things about either through reputation or a friend, I've always still worked hard for them and in some cases I've been pleasantly surprised and concluded that other people have been moaning about nothing.

Sometimes I've agreed that they're a terrible boss but I've always come to that conclusion myself over time and I'd hope that's how the players would act too, if he's a good manager they'll quickly ignore the comments from the press and Chelsea players.

But some were saying that AVB would be a bad appointment because of what Chelsea players might have said to our players. Clearly whatever Chelsea players might have said means bugger all.

If our players come to the conclusion that AVB is a bastard in 3 months, it's not because of what he did to the Chelsea players, it's what he did to ours. But it would have been that way whether he had the Chelsea experience or not.
