Whilst times are good...........remember the bad and feel even better

Guys this is our golden opportunity. If we don't snatch it this year it won't come for another 15 years. We need to finish as the best team in London this season, and the league doesn't lie. If we fudge it up we'll never be able to get near to doing it again. We'll never open up a 13 point gap again for years. We need it now!

Arsenal have been ahead of most teams over the last 17 years. I reckon that in a season where we can win the FA Cup and get CL spot people should put the obsesssion about bettering Arsenal to one side and focus on (hopefully) a season of progress for Spurs.

Besides if we win the FA Cup we'll have had 7 years in which Spurs have won 2 domestic cups and Arsenal have won fudge all. So I'd happily take 4th and the Cup now and let the Arse have their St Totteringhams day. They can write it on a certificate, frame it, and stick it in the otherwise empty Emirates trophy cabinet for all I care.

Exactly.

With our high UEFA co-efficent and the fact we'll be seeded in the qualifying draw, 4th is fine. We should get to the CL proper, which is the whole fudging point of finishing in the Top 4. After all you don't get a trophy for finishing 3rd. Or for finishing above the Scum. Or for being top London club. Chances are anyway, even if the Scum do finish above us, it will be close. If it is 1/2/3 points how much will that really prove in terms of a negative for Spurs? Not much IMO. The gap has closed, the tide is turning, we are competing with the eternal ****s Scum and the new money plastics Cheatski, and that is a certified fact.

What you do get a trophy for, though, is winning the FA Cup. The biggest cup there is to win in this country. A day out at Wembley, a trophy to put in our already illustrious trophy cabinet, and a proper ACHIEVEMENT to go with finishing in the top 4.

Yeah, 4th + FA Cup >>>>>>> 3rd, to me. And then some.

It's about proving to the world who we are. Eden Hazard will pick Arsenal if they finish above us. Our own star players will lose the attraction of Spurs. We need to do it this season to ever get to such a position again

There are some fair points in here.

Yes I'd love to finish above Arsenal but the real benefit of finishing 3rd is the automatic CL qualification and the benefits this brings especially in the transfer market. For someone like Hazard who may sign for either team this might be the difference.

I look at the remaining fixtures and think why can't we win all of them? We are a better team than every single one of them. 3rd and the FA cup please.

The difference between starting the summer as a CL or only ending the summer as a CL is vast

If the difference between 3rd and 4th is vast, the difference between 4th and 5th must be astronomical and a bit.

Like all Spurs fans I want us finishing ahead of Arsenal, but 4th would still be a good season. 4th and an FA-cup win would be great.

4th would be a good season. 4th and a pot even better.

In terms of building for next season though 3rd surpasses all IMHO.

Which is better?
1) Spend the whole window not knowing what status you are. Watch decent players joining CL clubs because you couldnt talk them into joining. Wait until 3 games into the season and 3 days before the window shuts before making your move...

or

2) Spend the summer dealing for the talent you want, no waiting, no rushing - methodical team building

I don't think the difference will be as big as that. Regardless of where we finish I'm expecting Levy to leave quite a bit of our business until the end of the window, possibly trying to get one or two players in early if he can.

I also don't think our potential big name targets like Hazard, Llorrente, Damiao and Verthongen will have to wait until after the CL qualification to sign.

I agree with all this.

It would be disappointing to finish below Arsenal, but if we do, so be it.

The gap thing doesnt phase me as much as it does others, firstly it may have been 13, but they had a game in hand. I always saw it as really 10pts, but deep down we must of all known it would more than likely be 4pts after the United and NLD matches.
I always felt they would probably be as good as level by today, I genuinely thought we would be 1pt clear of them but their win at Liverpool and our draw with Stoke blew that theory.

In a way i'm lucky being 'Up North' I dont have Arsenal/Chelsea fans in my ear, so I dont feel the grief anywhere near as much, meaning I could live with a 4th place finish far more comfortably than others.

But, at the end of the day this race is far from over. I'm clinging to this hope -
Spurs 4 Home games 12pts
Arsenal 4 Homes games 8pts

Both got QPR away Same outcome?
Stoke v Arsenal Sunderland v Spurs Same outcome?

Spurs would need to get the same amount of points from Villa and Bolton Away, as Arsenal do from Wolves and West Brom
Away

Not too far fetched, we could have a dramatic last day at WHL and The Hawthorns

I do. Will have to wait and see I guess.

Hazzard isnt going to a non-CL club, thats a given. And given the money to be thrown at him from top level teams, we would do well to sign him regardless - let alone NOT as a CL club. Also, what are the chances he will still be on the market at the end of the window?

Alternatives - Berbatov today. Leaving Utd, NOT to a non-CL club. Could be an excellent squad buy for us, brilliant early business = I would guess not a remote possibility come the end of Aug...

Fantastic post

Knowing our transfer budget at the start of the summer is a MASSIVE difference. HUGE

on Paper we should really finish above them. Hopefully we show the same amount of fight as we did today.

Indeed. Now all the more difficult looking games are out of the way, Third place is there for the taking.
I can see arsenal dropping points as they have chelsea and Emirates Marketing Project to play. Confidence is everything as Arsenal on a good run, but we have stopped the rot and yesterdays second half was good

We had a run earlier this season where we took 31 points out of a possible 33. If we can play that football again, we can easily finish 3rd. You just have to remind yourselves how inconsistent Arsenal have been. I don't care if we finish 4th or 5th - all I care about now is 3rd. If we finish 4th, and even if we win the FA Cup, I'm still going to be disgusted at our recent form and how we fudged our season up

=D> THIS! Ffs we need to stop this obsession with Arsenal and focus on ourselves for once. As you say, if we can win the cup and finish 4th, who gives a toss where they come? It'll be a top season, and would be for the massive majority of teams. We need to stop obsessing over them and what they do, it's embarrassing.

Could not agree more i really do not care about the Arse, i want to win a trophy and we have a really good chance of doing so this season. 4th place and the FA.Cup for me.

A lot depends on whether Van Persie stays or goes in my opinion.

I hope we get our transfer business deals done early this time and not leave it till 23:59 on August 31st. Imagine if we finish 3 points or 1 point behind the scum this season. Of course you never know, but you to think that Parker and Adebayor would have made at least SOME difference in the first game of the season at Old Trafford. We might have saved ourselves a few million, but it can also cost you points and a higher position in the league table, which ironically, would cost us some money (albeit not a huge amount).

I tried 'Nice one Kyle' at the Lane on Tuesday... it's a full-back thang, right? ...and did any fudger join in didtheyfudge!

We sung it for Robbo when he scored against Watford!

Agreed that it would be an ideal song for Walker.
