Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

Tricky period coming up (or rather continuing) for Ange. Injuries and players looking tired. Need for rotation, and not just rotating players out for the EL and back in for the PL as was the case earlier in the season.

Hoping that some of the players will return and return in good form rather quickly.

For me some of Spence, Gray (if available), Bergvall, Lankshear and Moore (if back while things are still hectic) probably have to be given more trust now and more trust in the league. We can't just run the same players into the ground over the coming weeks and expect good performances.

Will be very interesting to see what he does for the Bournemouth game.

Doesn’t soun

Doesn’t sound like Moore is back any time soon
GHod knows what the illness was but it was clearly bad
Bergvall has come in as usb in the last row game and played like he physically has stepped up. I wonder if there had been more conditioning work with him that’s paying off
He also won a lot of headers over a short period which was great
Gray will down to where Ange wants him to play and the injury
Spence has been criminally under used
Either he has reverted back to the player they didn’t want or Ange is just missing a trick… very very odd and more so when you see the state the full backs are in currently

The Spence thing is weird.

It appeared like Spence was back in favour after him and Ange having a reset over the summer.

Ange then omits him from the EL squad. A bit harsh, but it's a numbers game. Still 8 games Spence probably thought he had a good chance of playing in.

With the energy asked of the FBs, I'd have expected Spence, not necessarily to have started, but at least give Udog or Porro 20/30mins off in a number of games. He could even be an option in BJs position, for 20/30mins (BJ often looks shattered).

Also I think I'm correct in saying that Spence and BJ formed the right hand flank when Forest got promoted?. So there's a ready made connection there.

He is also one of the 'back ups' that doesn't feel inexperienced to me.

I think we will get the answer in regards to Spence over the coming weeks - if he's not used during this busy period I've no idea when he will be under Ange.

Let's not forget he is just back from injury, we don't have the data as to what is going on with that. For a little clue as to a players attitude I look to how they join in the celebrations of a goal. He was only on the pitch for last few minutes, but when we got the 4th at City he ran right up to Werner and congratulated him wholeheartedly with the assist - it might be a small thing, but suggests to me he is very much with the team. The fact he was willing to sign a new long term contract suggests to me both Spence and Ange see a future here...,

Uh yes to everything here
He did play with Brennan at Forrest and he also showed in the cup there that he can defend well aggressively

Fully agree.
And that’s the odd part

Tbf, wasn't Spence a Levy buy? Maybe Ange was asked to try and make do and he's found after initially trying to, he actually can't (due to his methods etc...)

I guess like many say, we will find out very soon...

Good points. But seem strange if he's but involved more in the coming games.

We are in a home tie in the QF of the Carabao Cup, could go all the way realistically still, so makes me wonder if people actually believed the "take a cup over the league" stuff that was on here for years. IF we won that and finished 8th, loads on here said they would be happy
Well I think it's quite possible that we could finish 8th and not win a cup :)

In the grand scheme I think consistency of league performance says more than a run in a cup. I think the win a cup any cup cadre are probably trying to shake off the easy banter but also possibly believe a cup win adds something to the mental of the players and the squad.

I'm not sure if I agree completely, I think it's a bit more dependent on the cup itself. Winning the EL is something else entirely to me than winning the CC and not because of the potential reward but the challenge, the adversity required and the quality of the opposition faced and obviously the prestige of winning a major competition in Europe.

Yeah this is the thing, I do think most would genuinely be happy with a cup win and a more mediocre league position (winning a cup would get you European football anyway) but as things stand we don't know if we will win a cup, and the odds would be more likely we won't than will at the moment.

But, we are still very much involved in all cups and not too badly placed in the league - if we were to get some better luck on the injury front second part of the season (everyone gets injuries but we've been down to the bare bones for more than one period under Ange) things could turn out more positive....
