Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

I wanted/expected the midfield triangle to have 2 deep and 1 forward (rather than the opposite).

I forget the specifics, but can someone remind me please?

Was it Bentancur sitting with Sarr b2b and Deki further forwards...
Then subs...
Biss for Sarr and Madds for Johnson on 68 so Deki went up wide right where Johnson was.

Biss sitting deep like a 4141 like we did at City... ? So Madds and Bentancur in midfield, with Bentancur charging up wildly to press the keeper?!
Then Bergvall for Bents at 77.

Could have made a 5th sub but it's all a blur. Checking.... only 12 year old children left on the bench, plus Udogie who could have replaced Gray or allowed Gray to go infield with Biss maybe.
I think that's right. Though perhaps Bentancur and Bissouma taking turns to move into the box to box role when on the pitch? Were only there for a short time so difficult to tell.

Udogie could have replaced Porro with Gray moving to the right. Fresh legs on the left and giving Porro a slight breather. Could have brought on Werner earlier too. But I'm sure Ange has his reasons and he'll know a lot more about the fitness of the players.

Do they have shops in Australia?

Do they ever shut?

Do they have buses in Australia?

Do they ever park?
I think we kinda tried. Brought on Bissouma to partner Bentancur and Maddison to help us keep the ball. But then Bentancur got booked...

We also defended deeper than we typically do I think, in part because Solanke and Kulusevski couldn't keep up the pressure.

He does realise that it’s possible to play exciting football AND have a solid defensive base, right?
If he wasn't we probably wouldn't have been conceding fewer goals this season than last...

I guess part of the question is when you're in a situation where you're only starting one of your first choice back 5, and missing other starters along with rotation options meaning that players will tire. Do you stick with your principles or do you go with a different, more cautious approach.

Ange will stick with his principles. I like that.

Problem for him is, we don't seem able to consistently perform whether it's our first choice back 5 or the third choice - both combinations make the same errors.

I do wonder what the board will make of him chuckling about keeping it entertaining if we don't look as if we are going to get European football next season...

In some ways I do admire his approach, but I struggle to think it's sustainable over the long term.

He isn’t here for the long term imo
It’s the Harry appointment before the poch

Depends what the standard for performance is that they're being measured up against. Again our goals against and xG against in the league (where we have played our first choice back 5 most of the time) is improved from last season and decent.

When we're playing with energy I think we're defending quite well. When our energy drops we struggle more. This is where we need time to develop and improve the squad imo.

What do you see as the same errors repeating themselves?

The board will care about results and to a lesser degree (I think) performances. I doubt they will care about what he says in press conferences unless he starts having Conte-esque rants about the club.

Eh? What are basing that on?

Said this many times. It really is up to Ange himself whether he stays for the long haul.

There is a playbook that every manager gets to mould their formations, tactics and they obviously get to nurture players and give them individual plans. If Ange ignores chapters in this playbook, and we don't plateau high then he will fall on his sword. It won't be down to transfers and budgets with this guy. It will be down to the man himself.

I'm still hopeful he's not the Harry before the Poch, but he does keep dropping hints that he might be. We also need better than Poch next time. We need to find our Klopp or Pep.

Players queuing up unmarked in the box to slot home balls played in from the wing.

I do think they’ll care if we are off the pace for Europe. It’s about how seriously he presents himself as a representative of a club that (supposedly anyhow) wants to achieve European football and be in the mix for every competition it enters.

Wouldn't that be the Harry appointment before AVB before Sherwood as the caretaker and then Poch?

I think it's way too early to say how long he'll be here for.
Technically but there isn’t a chance that the club would go back to a guy who doesn’t have the external charisma needed for the role

As i said before, i'm not Ange out, nor am I thinking he's the second coming of Jesus. I feel i have to preface this each post as our fans are quite divided. but last night was on Ange. Another game where we just weren't smart, and i think it's intentional and instructed from him.

His constant ethos on attacking the other team. We were 2-1 up and under the cosh for last 15mins. How many fouls did we win? How many times did we kill the game. drop down with an injury, break the momentum of Roma?

Such a silly game to throw away. Time and time again, and a lot of times at 1-0 in the first half, Roma attacked, we won the back back, and instead of just slowing things down, holding possession, we tried to break fast or have Forster move the ball out super quick, just to fail to beat the press and have the ball come back again and again.

If we're a bit smarter we would close games out, but this method of constant attack, when reading the game it's the wrong thing, cost us the win last night and that's on Ange. just, incredible how good we are yet how dumb we play sometimes. It's ok when you're Celtic in the Scottish league. there are times in PL/Europe where pragmatism or smarts are required and i get he's wedded to his principles but throwing away games is foolish.

He is at Bournemouth currently
And pep isn’t pep without the money

Pep isn't Pep without the quality and intelligence of players he needs for his systems. Obviously, that takes money. I've always enjoyed how City stay away from the obvious signings in European and find their own ballers based on the recruitment strategy.

Admittedly, we are now setup for a younger guy like Araola. We have the senior guys in the leadership team to support him, and we've removed the passive aggressive players that kept going on strike and getting managers fired.

Being the Harry before the Poch would be a good thing. Harry was quite consistent overall, with often some annoying tactical absences when it came to the crunch. But he knew how to set-up a defence and knew his way around the Premiership.

Ange looking more like a upside-down version of AVB as things stand
