Welcome Ange: To Dare is to Didgeridoo

He is right and I think as fans we have an almost obligation to meet him and thr team half way and give them the support this season and not be half arsed because we feel let down. For all the 2001 Levy and Enic arguments currently going on, none of that's on Ange or the players, it's a new season tomorrow, I'm still excited, let's fcuking go

Love that!

I'm really thinking Kane probably going played a bit part in who we hired. This is a rebuild, and that's as much about mentality as it is players.
Well done Levy for making a good call, and bold one. Even if it doesn't work out, it feels like the right choice.

I miss Mourinhios miserable sulkly interviews and Contes venomous vitriol.... not.

What a refreshing change .... I always judge people that I don't know in real life if I could have a pint with them ... I would definitely have a day sess with this man ... but VdV was the man who I would drink with until I collapsed!

Imagine how Mou and Cnute would have reacted to this. Not enough rattles in not enough prams for their vitriol.

I would have paid to watch that to be honest I could imagine Mourinho standing up and giving two fingers up at the journos and kicking a water bottle on the way out .... with conte just grabbing the table and flipping it with brick flying everywhere before swearing in Italian and walking off

Ange is about to find out if we are a big/great club:

"With all these things there's opportunity. What you've got to try to do is what the great clubs do, the great organisations: replace greatness with greatness.

"How that comes about is not easy, but that's what the big clubs do. They find a way to sustain and maintain and grow even when the greatest leave their doors."

Going back through our previous big player sales we always found a way to improve in the years after so hopefully we do so again

And if we are he will have to be a key part of that.

Football clubs are not big or great because of one element....its a collective

He really is a bit of a poet with his words and the way he explains things, gives you the impression he's just a straight up guy. The kind of boss people want to work for in any industry.
It is making a difference to have a coach who can articulate thoughts in his first language for us to hear in some depth

Well done, Ange. A creditable draw against a well drilled Brentford team who have been playing together for a long time. Lots to work on, lots to be positive about too.

A few weird decisions, and some inexperience - but also some good adaptability, which some feared he didn't have.

Weird decisions -

  • Starting Skipp in that advanced midfield role - he isn't the player for that, and it showed. Especially when you have Lo Celso on the bench. Weird choice, felt like Postecoglou rewarding Skipp for scoring against Barca.
  • Starting Son and Kulu as wingers - they just don't work there, and it surprised me. Kulu fine, because we have no other natural RW, but imo Sonny should have started through the middle and Solomon/Perisic out wide on the left.
  • Only making three subs - what was the point? Not like we have a lot of games this season, and the fresher legs of another two subs (Solomon, Lo Celso?) might have helped.

Inexperience was the muddle with the concussion sub form - just a rookie mistake.

But on a positive note, he seemed firm on a few key principles (play out from the back, look to play forward), and on the other hand, some of the things that blatantly weren't working (getting torn open down the flank on the counter multiple times), he tweaked at half-time. Royal and Udogie stayed noticeably deeper and wider after half time, which shut down those channels.

Mixed debut, but ultimately he'll learn from his errors and hopefully fix the selection.

Looks like Thomas Frank won the tactical battle but we had a very unsettled back line for various reasons. Still kudos to Ange to drop both Dier and Davies...they wouldn't have coped. Perhaps a few more games with vdv and romero together and we can start to see better football. Next few games will be exciting for sure.

How do you figure Frank won the tactical battle? In the second half we totally dominated the game just lacked the quality in the front 3
