I'd be thrilled to finish 5th and get CL this season. And I would imagine the club and the players would be too.I'm not so fussed about league position for Franks first season provided we aren't threatening relegation. Obviously for optics it's better the higher we finish, but just for the spirit of longevity of the manager I think the general footballing approach and style is more important for season one.

Because the league isn't finished yet and as such our league position is not final - a win on Sunday (yeah right) could have us 4 or 5 points off of the CL spots (it already is actually if you factor in 5th getting you entry) does that mean all of a sudden we're doing much better?

It's hailed repetitively as quite an achievement that Ange finished 5th his first season. (Which, it was).
And surely it's about more than 'optics'? The incremental increase in revenue the higher you finish in PL, and CL revenue too...
Yes obviously league position has benefits. I'm just talking about long term, Conte finished positionally high for us first season but there was no longevity to it. I don't mind an average/poor league position for season one if you could see some long term potential where the seeds were being sewn for future benefit.....billyiddo said:

Thats our 1st team squad right now with Udogie, Kulusevski, Solanke not due to return anytime soon. Sarr still at AFCON for a bit. Keep in mind Van de Ven is suspended for Dortmund and Dragusin is not registered as well. So that’s a 15 outfield players to pick from for that the Dortmund game.
Paritici double agent!!
I think that's exactly the case. Probably still phone tapping, and the voicemail left was generic, so they made up somethingOr maybe paratici was just talking to fiorentina about soloman and the media went with he's going there.
Dunno.
Udogie and Kulu are both scheduled for January returns. Solanke seems to be getting somewhere at last too.
It should be perfect opportunity to bring Olusesi and Williams-Barnett into the fray. It's kind of why the 25 man squad limit exists - to force those kind of circumstances on clubs.
Udogie is back training on grassKulusevski returning is news to me. Solanke is the one that’s been training. No clue of Udogie either.
I’d love to see LWB given a go but he wasn’t even on the bench yesterday.
Honestly it would be better for this squad to be in the Europa League next season. Give these young players a go.
I was discussing this with a mate recently, this season would have been better to be in the EL too as it would allow us to form a 1st XI & 2nd XI like how we did last season during group stage (and how Poch did in his first season) being in the CL has meant we have had to try and cover two competitions with as strong a team as possible - i think that's a mitigating circumstance that gets brushed over. Most new managers won't come in to a club that is both in dire straits and in the CL, it's a funny old situation to be in for Frank, who has obviously never even managed a club in a continental competition before, so talk about veing thrown in at the deep end
Strongly disagree - not many of the best clubs in the competition are able to regularly rotate out multiple first XI players in their group matches - and the ones that do will have settled sides and managers who know their squads better than Frank will know hisThe quality in and particularly format of the CL means we could have rotated more in the league phase if we'd wanted to.
He was obviously bought to sell shirts in Japan, and maybe we were planning a pre season tour there at some stage. The fact is we bought him injured. Another terrible Levy era signing.Option to buy for Takai. Twitter is on meltdown. He hasn't featured once, so as long as we make a profit, who cares. If we do sell him with a loss, then our entire recruitment team should consider different careers.
I went to see Bromley once! Ace stadium, one of the oldest, I believe.

I thought the reports were they discovered a foot injury as soon as he arrived. So not sure if that was post the medical tbh. Either way its weird to move him on now hes fit having not kicked a ball for us..He wasn't injured when we bought him was he?
He was also highly rated and had caps for his national team.
He's been injured a while and needs to get back to fitness. We have a lot of defenders so loan him. Hope he does well and comes back in the summer ready to compete for a squad place.
